Which Restore Point did you choose....the one from 6.50 this evening?
If you are happy to do so.
You can back up your Firefox bookmarks and any data that you wish to keep and then run the Factory Restore.
There will be a lot of updates to install.0 -

Ok well i will be back tomorrow evening, if you think I should try to fix the problem? The updates, a couple of hours to update or longer, it would take all day sunday? Thank you all again.0 -

If you haven't anything to save, then a clean install/factory restore is preferable to faffing around cleaning up infections for hours.
The Factory Restore is quick, updates take ages because you have to repeatedly go back to Windows Updates to check for updates, installing them, rebooting and then checking again....0 -

If you can run it, DDS will take but a few minutes & will produce a log that may give an indication as to what you are infected with, IF you are infected.
From there it may be a quick fix - maybe not - At least you'll have some hard data to go on before making a judgement about reinstalling or fixing. If you are infected, then dependant upon the infection sometimes a reinstall is the best route anyway.0 -
Last night before i went, in my wisdom:o decided to do another system restore to take me back further..... did it and now Avast won't work. Tried that link again, DDS, thought without Avast it might work, a black box pops up and goes real quick and that is it. I have saved all my data, including firefox from another link(thanks) in other thread, though am a bit puzzled how I get it back on laptop:o
Also on the other thread the instrucions mention the setting the bios to default, where do I do that and the bit abt the sound muting? I was hoping to have someone here tomorrow to start me off with this process, but his wife is having a baby, so am on my own with this.0
