Ok, have another thread here abt reinstalling Vista, but though I would run Malwarebytes, it won't open and this message pops up:
Can't open malwarebytes either, saying " an error has occured please report this error to our support team PROGRAM--ERROR-LOAD DATABASE (0,13,CreateSDK)
I presume this means I have something nasty:( Can anyone help please.

Close mbam.
Delete the file rules.ref found at:
C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
Open mbam and update.
You'll have to show hidden files & folders.0 -
Sorry can you explain, what mbam?0
-
Malwarebytes' Anti-malware0
-
It wont open, just get that message.0

sorry am very dense, where do I find this
C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref0 -
Press the windows logo key + R on your keyboard. Whan the run command opens, copy & paste this in:
"C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware"
(include the quote marks)
It should open the relevant folder. Locate rules.ref & delete it.0 -
Ok, did mange that, not sure if I did it right, malware still wont open, when i try that again it says files are empty
tried again with the quote marks, it still wont open0 -
Mbam won't open doing that - A folder should open and you should see a file rules.ref
If you do, delete that file and then try opening and updating mbam normally.
rules.ref is the database which seems corrupted in your case.
Failing that, reinstall it. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php
If it still won't have it, run mbam clean & then try reinstalling.

There are viral infections out there at the moment which prevent the opening of certain programs (such as those designed to cleanse the infections for obvious reasons!).
I have had success by downloading the file but renaming the setup file. Then save it to somewhere else on your system rather than the default C:\MalwareBytes\etc (save to C:\Test for example). Then when install is complete, rename the application executable within the program directory (eg. change from mbam.exe to test.exe).0 -
Ok it wont let me reinstall it, says the source file is corrupt.0
