  • Today I have finally got all of the figures together for the bank charges reclaim I am going to attempt. Now to get the letter itself together and get it sent to them pronto.

The total of charges incl statutory interest is sitting at a little under £9000.00 :eek:

Wow, if you can claim that back MrsPG, it will more than make up for the vanishing bank deposit, and hassles with car! ;)

:eek::eek::eek:indeed to the bank charges, have you seriously paid that over the years?!?! That's madness! One of my friends is kicking off on FB today about £600+ bank charges in 2months because she used her card for £10 here, £12 there and didn't realise it was over. Although she also thinks it's ok to have £5k of credit card debt?!?!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Hope you get that £9k paid back, that'll do wonders to your total and put you over half paid off :D in just over 2 years that's flipping fannytastic xx

Agree...and I haven't forgotten about that potential PPI claim too Mrs PG ..I fully intend to constructively nag you about that in the future..you have been warned! ;)

£5k debt kerri....certainly nothing to be proud of ( as I know!) ..even if it's at a good interest rate. Has she anything to show for it?

  • Thankyou all, it would be wonderful if we did manage to reclaim the charges, but I am not counting my chickens in the slightest !

Mrs B, I know you will nag in your own special way, was it re the "cashing in of the endowment " that you plan to nag about ?! :rotfl:

Kerri, I used to think 5K was sort of okish in another life. I felt it was manageable and I could easily pay it back, oh how wrong I was. I wouldn't mind though, have nothing to show for it, we paid THEM , the mortgage and bought food with our credit card, nothing exciting at all !

Now, I have a dilemma. I have written a letter re the bank charges, it is a complete ramble. Usually my letters are pretty good, but for some reason I am finding this a struggle. I have had difficulty concentrating since Dad passed away and currently have the attention span of a gnat .:o

If anyone reading has claimed charges, or if you haven't your opinion is appreciated. On the section where I have to "tell our story", in the template all of the hardship rules are listed of which we qualify (in my opinion ) for each and every one of them. I am unsure as to whether to list each of these as bullet points with our "story" against each one. The majority of this can also be backed up by emails and letters. Or do I just tell a big long story incorporating all of these elements, or do I send the basics and keep some cards close to my chest as a bit of additional ammunition should they come back and say "bu&&£r o££ !!" I know that this bank in particular is a rather sticky tricky customer so am fully expecting that reaction.

The letter I have written is four pages long, I think they may get fed up after the first paragraph :p. I have written a paragraph relating to each of the hardship rules but that mean that the letter jumps around alot between 2005 and 2013 as different circumstances led to different things during this time.

Any thoughts or advice at all would be gratefully appreciated this morning please . I am really for a quiet day with work to get this letter finished and off in the post. Thankyou xx

  • Actually just had a thought. I could possibly include a paragraph for each year
ie 2005 - Major Contract overseas came to an end resulting in no income blah blah blah .........

2009 - Withdrawing cash on credit card to live on, bank fully aware of this ............................

2010 - Bank pressurised us into taking out a huuuuggggeeeee loan giving us three days to make the decision or else !!

Im going now before I ramble some more, I think I could be on a rambling roll this morning xx:o

I'm guessing it's similar to the PPI claim. I just put a list in date order of the things, seemed easiest. You want quick bullet points as they're easier to read & refer to than a big long-winded paragraph. Short, punchy things to get the point across :) Then you can say "I refer to point 1a. of my previous letter..." when you write to them in future :)
