Just a really quick post , but I had a question for you please.
Has anyone else had problems getting Buildings and Contents insurance since being on a DMP please / credit rating shot ?
We had problems a couple of years ago when we began defaulting and were given quotes in excess of £2500 a year  House was left uninsured for 8 months as we couldn't pay that amount of money . Eventually got insurance with D$rect £ine, but I could only get a decent quote if my name wasnt on the policy, only Mr PGs. We didnt insure any valuables as the quote was pretty high. Insurance up for renewal now, they have re quoted us but I have been shopping around over the weekend online in the hope of getting cashback as well. Everyone is saying either that we must ring for our quote, it cannot be provided online as they need to ask more questions or that they are unable to insure us at this time.
I am just wondering if this is pure coincidence or something to do with our credit rating being shot to pieces. I was once told that if our credit rating was shot that they would assume we were in difficulties and therefore more likely to file a fraudulent claim and therefore would not insure or would only insure at a sky high premium. I am unsure if there is any truth in this.
Has anyone else come across these problems please ??
Thankyou all, hope you are all having a good day xxxxLBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

Hello MrsPG, :hello:
Ouch to the insurance hassle!
Sorry, never had that problem. Hope someone comes along with a solution - have you put your question onto the MSE insurance board?0 -

that sounds a bit off. I have abysmal credit - cant lend a pencil. I pay 26 pounds a month.
Not sure what their criteria may be. Its bizarre.Trying to shift that debt!0 -
Hi
Never had a problem or heard of anyone else with the same issue.
Have you had any claims? That often shoots up the prices.
Hope you get sorted

Nope no claims, ooh actually I lie we claimed £450 last year when the boiler blew up and premiums with Direct £ine have increased in the new renewal form they sent out, but that was to be expected after the claim.
When we moved in here 10 years ago the cost was £72.00 a month for buildings and contents and it gradually reduced over time.
We began having trouble a couple of years back and when I questioned one insurer as to why my neighbour in an identical house had just been quoted £380 a year by the same insurer and he had just quoted me £2500 his answer was as explained yesterday. I could only assume he was either making it up or they did some sort of soft credit check on us prior to quoting. Hence why the house was uninsured for a period of time which obviously wasnt ideal. I then struck upon the idea of trying to insure the house in one name only which is what we currently have and that way I got the premiums down but after trying to shop around yesterday for the renewal in Mr PGs name alone I was hitting problem after problem.
I have decided to leave alone and stick with the renewal at £52 a month. Its still less than we were paying ten years ago. The only worry is that there are items that should be insured separately, but they haven't been covered for past three years so I will leave them that way for now and just hope we don't lose them !! xLBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

Sorry re insurance...ours is much less than that. I always opt for a high excess to try and reassure them that I am not going to claim willy nilly. Have you tried varying the excess to say £500 for contents? £1000 for buildings?
Any news on business OD or am I just out of touch!!!?
