  • Morning Pinot

I'm 20 months into my DMP, have between 2 and 3 years left to go. Will very much depend on the interest issue as I'm close to minmum repayments. Am really interested in looking at doing self managed but am cautious of rocking the boat so plan is just head down for now.

Living out the cupboard is prooving very boring for me but am saving money which will help the roof fund so that's good.

Hope your folks are feeling better today.

  • HI- like you I struggled for a long time trying to do all this myself, and in the end because of pressure from creditors went down the IVA route which has turned out I feel to be the best thing. You may or may not have the same views as I did, I felt that I wanted to pay everything off and was working very long hours, selling things on ebay, you name it- but creditors will only accept low payments for a while and then want to start looking at securing their debts one way or another. If your income is not secure- i.e. neither of you are in regular employment, then to be honest your best route may be bankruptcy. I appreciate its probably not want you want to hear, but an IVA is only good if you have a regular income and can maintain the payments over the 5 years that it runs.
I would be inclined to suggest you take advice- there are debt charities such as Payplan, Christians Against Poverty (who are a very professional organisation and have trained insolvency practitioners) , Citizens Advice etc- you need an appraisal of where the money will come from, and at the end of the day it will either be income, in which case an IVA is suitable, or your assets, in which case sadly Bankruptcy is the solution. I would personally only recommend debt management, or an arrangement to pay, if you could get everything paid off over a few years, or where the arrangement is only intended to be temporary.
now debt free and determined to maintain good spending habits and build savings

    Good luck with M&S.

I try get veg when on offer, cook and freeze myself. Sounds silly but tastes so much better than bought frozen that is often waterlogged.

Infact all left overs get frozen.

Also I buy some tinned fruit to add to fruit salad that I do each week. Again sounds illogical but I have had some fantastic deals on good fruit like tinned apricots from Waitrose ocado site. I have become such a savvy shopper since DMP. I like good food but it's one of the few areas you have real choice and opportunity to save when on the plan.

Can be very useful when having get togethers too. I use my bargains and get the others to bring the other stuff when they offer.

I hate to admit it but until recently, I hadnt even realised there was a section int he veg aisle that was all reduced in our local supermarket.. How terrible is that ? It was actually Mr Pinot who enlightened me to it when he arrived home before christmas so pleased with himself :D and two bags full of broccoli that cost him 5p each. Since then we have had some lovely bags of rocket ( my favourite) and baby sweetcorn...... you name it really !

Thankyou so much for your tips, they are so useful and I am hopingwhen things quieten down and settle a bit this end I will ahve time to follow them up throughly.:)

Hi, just popped in for a catch-up on how you're doing :).

I see you've added your mortgage figure to your signature, well done. I actually found it quite liberating (if a little scary!) when I totalled all my debts on here - hope you feel the same :).

Hope your parents are feeling better x

Thankyou, I have been to see them both today and they arent doing too bad. They always seem to cheer up when they have visitors.

Yes I did add the mortgage after your inspiration ! I'm not sure the total is exact but good enough, I ahve requested a recent statement. Another scary figure but do- able and we do have some equity if things go really go belly up , although I am determined that they wont.

I have been catching up regularly with your diary. You are so very motivated its amazing ! x

    Hi Pinot.

You mention about the cinema. The last time I went to the cinema was with my fiance, now my wife, back in 1988 to see 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'. I seem to remember this was half animated and half not.
    :)

You said about buying a birthday present which reminds me it is DS birthday on 21st of this month. More spending.
I class a NSD as a day I personally don't spend any money. Any direct debits which come out of our account I don't count these as they have already been accounted for in the budget.

I'm not keen on ironing either. I do it occasionally and will iron clothes for DD, DS & myself early in the morning if I have to. DW always says my ironing is not very good. I suppose that is a good enough excuse to get out of ironing. I do other jobs though - washing, gardening, decorating, cleaning the house and bathroom. :)

You mention you have found a spending log. Are you able to enlighten me, as I may find this useful? :)

I hope you're enjoying the bottle of wine with your friend this evening.
We too have a business website and it gets about three visits per day, but nobody buys anything.

    Enjoy your Sunday! :D

Hi bonnington, how are you ?

Yes I remember that film it was Who Framed Roger Rabbit, I havent seen it since then either, but it was on TV over Chrismtas. I wanted to watch it as I thought the kids might like it, but then I totally forgot all about it ! Maybe one day in the not too distant future you will get a trip to the cinema again ......

Yes we have a few birthdays this month, it really eats into the budget doesnt it. Does your DS have a wish list or is he nice and easy to buy for and happy with anything? Thankyou fr your classisfication of a NSD, in my heart of hearts that what I knwo it is, was just clutching at straws !! :)

I will pm you later with the spending log, it really is good. I cant remember its name at the moment, so need to go and check. I'm never too sure what you can and cant post although I did put the website for the books sales on here the other day and nobody has told me off !

The ironing is still looking at me, jsut not had the time this weekend. I am absolutley rubbish at at it anyway, not like Mr Pinot who irons beautifully but far too slowly for my liking. You are so good doing all those other chores, its a rarity to find , I do hope you are appreciated !

Anyway I hope you have had a good Sunday too :)
