seagull, if you paste the txt of the ad for the guitar into Google you will see the exact ad for the guitar! It ended on 29th Oct and sold for £410 from a member with good feedback so deffo a scam....
Great spot Pentium, and good detective work!
BTW, just checked on Gumtree and the guitar ad is still live and on there....
@GTK - great ideas and nice for for being so pro active about them.0 -
@Seagull I've just reported the ad as fraudulent to Gumtree citing the related eBay expired auction with exact wording and reference to member receiving the UKASH scam method as justification. Hopefully they will remove it ASAP to ensure someone else does not suffer.
I can completely emphasis with you about being excited by seeing an ad for an item of your dreams at a great price - I very nearly fell for a similar scam for a digital piano. Let's make sure they don't succeed with others.0 -
@Seagull. I also chased up with Gumtree on your add, sending them the ebay link where the photos were copied from.
They replied to me saying they will look into your ad, and added…
If you do see any more ads that are against our rules please feel free to report them to us by using the “report this ad” link which can be found top right-hand side of the ad. This is the fastest way to bring certain ads that don't comply with our posting rules to the attention of the appropriate CS teams.

yes the original ebay advert is here, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LL-11-Yamaha-Acoustic-guitar-/2810035972090

@GTK - yep, that's what I did 09/11:
"report them to us by using the “report this ad” link which can be found top right-hand side of the ad."
It would seem that between us we have reported it three times now, so hopefully it will soon be removed.
@Rimmy - yep, that's the ad which pentium found. The stupid thing is, there's a good chance I would have seen that when it was on ebay because I have been keeping my eyes open for an LL11!0 -
Fraud protection have contacted me and they confirmed the location of my crime was belgium.0

This to me looks very like one that was going around for competitions last year - I had one of them, writing is almost identical and again looked believable with contact number etc but prizes never arrivingJuly 2015 Wins- Shaun The Sheep Goody Bag, 4x Books
Year to date: £786
Total to date ( Since 2008 ) = £37,345 :eek:0 -
i to nearly fell for kateporter75 scam it was a dfs sofa ,i had same emails as others, then parcelforce notification, late on friday 9/11/12, luckily i have used parcelforce myself and notification did'nt ring true, then read further and i was told to go to corner shop etc and get ukash vouchers for£270, reported to parcelforce and the police who told me they had pages full of complaints regarding kate porter, and other names used by who they are sure is the same person the numbers 75 seem to be used quite often, i then reported to gumtree, my suggestion to them was that if when a person pressed the reply to ad, maybe they could flag up on ad page that if you are asked at any point to pay by ukash, western union or transfer then to proceed with caution, and contact themselves, they replied by email saying they work with the police to detect these frauds. but it seems to of being going on such along time without anyone catching them, that maybe gumtree etc should look at other ways to help people not lose money that we can ill afford0

I totally agree with you jlake13. I don't think a warning would go amiss at all, and would almost certainly help people not to fall into the trap.
I find the "75" aspect weird. Why would someone do that? And why when Gumtree vet the ads can they not look out for this? If the scammer is going to leave obvious clues as to their identity, surely the most should be made of those clues?!?!0 -
I totally agree. All Gumtree would need to do is at the point of responding to an advert (or the subsequent emails sent to confirm the message has been sent) is inform the prospective buyer NEVER to use payment systems they are not familiar with, as there has been instances of scamming.0
