  • I sent Barclaycard a secure message explaining that I have a balance on my Egg card but that it was no longer in use as I had rejected their rate rise. Because if this I have not been sent a new Barclaycard and do not have the card details to register my account online. I am also an existing Barclaycard customer and thought my old Egg account would be added to my Barclaycard login.

3 days later I got a response saying I had to register my new card online then they could merge the two accounts. most unhelpful since I had already explained that I have not and will not be receiving a Barclaycard to replace my old Egg card!!

I have sent them another message and will no doubt wait another 3 days to get a reply!!

I sent a message requesting the accounts to be merged. Their repy was register the new BC online and then they will merge with the other BC accounts. They advised can take 3 working days. However still waiting.

I know when they took over Morgan Stanley cards they issued me with a BC and eventually that did get merged with my other accounts. So I live in hope!
  • When people say "freeze" interest rate on closed account cards does that mean no new interest is applied or it continues to apply at a lower rate eg 19.9% rather than proposed increase to 26.6% if your card was live?

My Egg now BC is cancelled but i still have to pay higher rate!

Answer: it continues to apply at a lower rate

N.B. I believe you have 60 days to opt out.

I believe that you also have to formally reject the rate rise rather than just cancel the card.
  • I have been an egg customer for many years and have now been transferred to Barclaycard.I have always paid my outstanding balance in FULL by direct debit.
On the transition to Barclaycard on 07/11/2011, my latest statement was compiled by BC. Interest charges had been added to the balance .When I queried this BC stated that on the previous statement, the full balance had not been paid. On 06/10/11, my balance was £xxx..Between this date and the actual direct debit, a refund had been applied for £40 for an item returned to the suppliers.Egg had treated this as a credit and and reduced the £xxx amount they collected by £40.00 on the due date.
However BC claimed that the balance of the statement and the amount paid was default by £40.00 and hence they added an interest penalty.Trying to sort this with the BC international call centre was a nightmare.

I've also had the same problem. I phoned the call centre, and after 8 minutes of going through the details I realised what had happened: my final "full payment" before the egg transfer was not for the full balance. I pointed out this was obviously Egg's or Barclay's fault, since it's they who decide the amount to take out. The gentleman on the line agreed (after I was put on hold for a minute) and refunded the full interest payment.

A little bit painful, but worth the effort.

I wonder how many people have had exactly the same problem?
  • Does anyone pay Egg by standing order???? I have paid egg by standing order for a while now and I am just wondering if Barclaycard has got my payment as Barclaycard have only sent me a letter to say that they are getting the egg accounts and nothing else. I have had no card from them or nothing.

    I would guess probably not.
Have you bothered to check on-line? or called them?
If you haven't had a card them that would seem to imply they aren't continuing with your account.
But you need to ask them these questions.
You obviously have internet accesss and you can call them on an 0800 number.
  • The new Barclaycard account uses different payment details from the old Egg account, I had to set up a 'new payee' to send faster payment to it. I see a new direct debit has also been set up in my current account.

So, I guess Egg have are still receiving your standing order.
  • I cant check on line as I dont have a barclaycard number, will ring them in the morning and cancel my SO
