MSE News: Major changes for Egg customers as takeover completes

I'm now in the situation where my usual DD payment of full balance was bounced back just before the change over period. No, it wasn't because of insufficient funds in the bank account!
Check your DD mandates at the bank. There should be an old one in favour of Egg and a new one in favour of Barclaycard. If the Egg one is there, ask the bank why they refused the payment.Better still - I cannot pay this amount in full until 15 November at the earliest!"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -
Oh, the other problem. All records of my credit card and past statements have vanished from my egg money page and Barclaycard don't have the statements going back very far on their page - I'm not used to having financial statements disappear into the ether like this - not happy at all.
I managed to get Barclaycard to agree to send me paper statements for the egg card but they would only do it for transactions since August 2011 - in future my days of going paperless to save the planet are over!
Mine are there back to November 2010:cool:.
I got mine by clicking 'Check your statements' and then 'See all your available statements'.0 -
Two separate phone calls to Barclaycard - both said the same thing. I asked if I could pay the full amount immediately by debit card and they both said I had to wait until after the 15th0

I have had to phone Barclaycard today about my account migrated from Egg. They had charged me interest on my account even though I pay in full every month. They also had not brought forward my cashback earnings from Egg. I phoned them on 0800 917 7277. Went through to an Indian call centre but was sorted out. The interest will be credited on next months statement and the cashback will appear on next months statement too. I am an additional card holder on my partners card and have had 2 transactions declined yesterday. Barclaycard say there is not a problem with the card so don't understand why I can't use it. My own personal card seems fine......so far. Let's hope all this is just teething troubles with the change over.0

If you pay it directly from your bank account via Faster Payment it will hit the BC whether they like it or not, although given your problems this would probably go wrong as well, so best to wait and sort it out in six days' time...0 -
Wish I'd spotted your post earlier! After reading the post from pqrdef that said what the 2 separate people had told me from the call centre about not being able to pay anything until after 15th, I logged on and managed to navigate myself to a bit that said I could click to pay last month's statement total by debit card.
So that's what I did. Whether it will go through of course is another matter.......
I also used the posted information and checked my bank details - there are current DD's listed for egg and barclaycard - however nothing on the statement about the payment to egg that should have gone through - no payment listed and no 'return'.
Interestingly on the barclaycard statement there is for the amount that should have gone out from my bank to egg the following 2 entries:
31 Oct Payment 2 Egg - this shows the amount credited to my egg account
31 Oct Returned Payment - this shows that exact amount coming out of the egg account.
Now to me that reads as egg receiving the payment as usual from my bank by DD, but that egg then returned it - certainly the payment was made into the account.
I'm puzzled about why this doesn't show up on my bank statement at all - either transaction.
I've taken a copy of the egg statement and will go into the bank and see what they have to say.
Why on earth didn't egg contact me when they returned the payment???0 -

Some banks will make the payment in the morning when there isn't enough money, give you all day to put some money in, and then recall the payment in the evening if the funds haven't appeared.
A possibility is that somebody had a chunk of your money on hold, so the funds for your payment weren't really available."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. Without wanting to go into personal details there was more than enough in the current account fully cleared and able to be used.0

Helen Knapman says that Barclaycard have said that the terms for Egg customers will be maintained. Absolute tosh!!
My husband and I both have Egg cards. We have both received letters stating that our interest rate will rise by 6% unless we give up our cards. Only then will they allow us to freeze our interest rate at the current amount. As neither of us like Barclaycard we have both chosen to do that but for them to say that t's and c's will be maintained is not true!:mad::mad:0 -
^ The T&C with Egg stated the APR is VARIABLE, ergo the terms were maintained.
Still, somewhat ridiculous to slam an increase on you before they've even seen how you run the account. Best move to be rid of it and close the account down to repayment onlyCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
