  • i am more concerned with web security- egg was always marketed as a web secure card, guaranteed against fraud- which is why i got it and only use it for web.
barclaycard as most others are only standard secured- i have heard that if there is fraud and you dont report it within a certain time then you are liable for a certain amount. any views on this?

or any other cards that are guaranteed against any fraud?

  • I have been an egg customer for many years and have now been transferred to Barclaycard.I have always paid my outstanding balance in FULL by direct debit.
On the transition to Barclaycard on 07/11/2011, my latest statement was compiled by BC. Interest charges had been added to the balance .When I queried this BC stated that on the previous statement, the full balance had not been paid. On 06/10/11, my balance was £xxx..Between this date and the actual direct debit, a refund had been applied for £40 for an item returned to the suppliers.Egg had treated this as a credit and and reduced the £xxx amount they collected by £40.00 on the due date.
However BC claimed that the balance of the statement and the amount paid was default by £40.00 and hence they added an interest penalty.Trying to sort this with the BC international call centre was a nightmare.
  • I already had a Barclaycard when the Egg Card switched. Although the Barclaycard web site says your new egg replacement card will appear on your existing on-line account ...it doesn't. I had to create a new account to access. First statement generated today and although I always pay off the full amount, interest charges appeared ...also the cashback built up through the year had disappeared. Calls to the helpdesk were surprisingly efficient and issues resolved (they say). We shall see! Use 0800 028 2360 to avoid call charges.
  • I already have a Barclaycard account that I use and has a balance on it, but I also used to have an Egg card that I cancelled when they tried to raise the interest rate to 26.9% - the Egg card still has a balance which I am paying off at the minimum per month.
I have tried logging into my Barclaycard as normal, but I can't see my old Egg account listed.
Can anyone tell me if I am supposed to do something to add the Egg card to my Barclaycard account?
    Thanks

  • I've had exactly the same problem with a refund being applied after the statement date but before the DD. They tried to tell me interest had been applied because I'd only made a partial payment (the refund) even though my account was paid in full by the DD, on the due date same as every other month. They have agreed to refund the interest, but I think I'm going to have to watch them like a hawk every month to make sure they don't do it again - it's not infrequent for me to have refunds on my card.

I'm waiting until March to get my cashback, then I'll be off I reckon.

AFAIK, as long as they aren't negligent, cardholders are never responsible for fraudulent use of any credit card online. Giving a "guarantee" is just a marketing gimmick.

My Barclaycard statement hasn't got the accrued cashback on it - has anyone else got this issue / discovered when this should be added?

Also, does anyone know if I can have the wifi payment thing deactivated?
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

The RFID aspect of my Barclay's World Mastercard manages to stuff the Oyster Card I carry if they are close when I 'touch in' . The only solution is to separate them.

    PS.
Can't see my cashback anywhere. I don't know where to look for it !

MyEgg card has been my main card for years, then along comes Barclaycard, buys EGG, closes the website sends me off to a new website but doesnt snd a replacement card.

I called their off country call centre, yes sir you have lost your card, "no you didn't send me one" well we will send you a new card sir.

So the card comes, just for me, nothing for my wife the additional card holder (saves me money but she's not happy) then followed by another letter, telling me how to log in with my new credit limit....£1000!!

I have spent more than that on occasion this year, so given that I've not been able to log on to pay my balance off as I do each month online, I log onto the new site.... no balance, no history, no cashback accrued, no welcome note, nothing about my wifes card.

Do they realise how easy it is to get a new credit card??

My advice to all to save calling the absolutely awful script directed non UK call centre is to send an on line complaint. Following this take up a complaint with the Financial ombudsman, this costs Barclaycard £500 win or loose...hitting them in the pocket is the only real way to get them to give some decent customer service.

No more spedning on this card for me and I imagne they wil have a spike in their attrition report post cashback payout in March.

    What a shambles Barclaycard are.
