Had a cold call from redstar this morning, gave them no further details but they said I had a valid claim so would forward claim pack. Have now googled them and read this thread and think I should steer clear. what's my best next move? Not return pack when it arrives?

Stick in the the recycling bin, don't sign anything, block their number

If you had PPI and feel it was miss-sold then just complain directly and keep all your money. All a claims firm does is post off your letter

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I used to work in lead generating ie cold calling. No I'm not a fraudster but I was a single mum with a mortgage to pay, and quite frankly, there are much worse jobs.
No cold calling company has anyone's financial history, its ALL guess work. much like tarot readers. If you don't read the paperwork then what do you expect? Or decline politely and look around yourself?
If you sign the paperwork, then you legally must stick to the contract even if you find a cheaper deal after the fact. It might not feel great but its the law unfortunately. Maybe a lot of sales people have been unscrupulous in the job, but we mostly say "I believe" "Its possible" etc.
The cold calling at this place when I worked here a while back, by the way was to send info packs out Not to sign people up over the phone. I may be biased but if people would listen for a moment, they would understand what the purpose of a call might be.

Your financial details such as the bank account you gave is not in the public domain, the only way a marketing firm could sell on that data would be through obtaining the details by fraud or theft

You worked for ONE company, there are hundreds of CMCs.

A single anecdote doesn't mean other firms could be more unscrupulous and obtain data in an underhand manner

  • I Was also contacted by Red Star and made the mistake of using them as yes they take 25% of your claim which you don't realise at first then they are forever calling as said big mistake.

Read the contract you signed, then take the most appropriate route.

It will probably be cheaper to allow them to complete all your complaints.

    Chase up the redress payment.
  • I also made the big mistake of using red star the main reason being they claimed never to phone (I was bombarded by phone calls)I blocked some of the numbers being used but they always managed to use one that had not been blocked I did send an email when I received the paperwork saying that I had changed my mind about using them, then the emails and phone calls became daily to see why I had not yet returned the forms in the end I just gave in for a quiet life, they finally claimed back £122.41 of which I had to make a payment of £51.41 to them, and to top it all I received a invoice from them before I had received anything from the company involved,in the space of less than a week I received three invoices from red star,I am so fed up with them that I have paid the invoice and am praying that the cheque clears alright as I only paid it in my bank yestuday. My advice is steer clear of this company.

Not really, it just keeps pointing out that the problem is ongoing and people still fall for this kind of thing.
