Hi
Just wondered if anyone knew how to repel spiders. The littles want to have their play kitchen set up in the garden shed but I know the first sign of a spider and they will be screaming. I am sure I read somewhere that clove oil may do it (but I may have dreamt this). Anyone any ideas, please.0 -

Sorry, another question not an answer
...
Would it be okay to put veggie burgers (Tesco/Sainsbury soya type) straight from the freezer into a slow cooker for a casserole? The veggie stock would be hot but everything else would start off from cold.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Anyone know if you can make your own fragranced ironing water? Yes I know its not a necessity, but I like to use it. Could you just steep rose petals or lavender in water for a few days and then strain. I don't want a mushy goo and i don't want to bu**er the iron. Anybody made some or can direct me to a thread that has some info? Are those shopping bags you're carrying really bags of debt???0

How long do you boil old potatoes for to make them for potato salad? I usually do 30 mins for mash will this be too much? Also do you cube them first?
I normally cook the potatos whole and boil for about 15 mins- and then cube them when cold. !!!!! with a knife or scewer to check that they are cooked through- you don't want them too soft or they don't hold their shape when mixed with mayo. Try adding chopped chives that gives a bit of colour too as it can look quite bland. If using new potatos boil in their skins. Are those shopping bags you're carrying really bags of debt???0 -

I tend to add a drop or 2 of essential oil to about a pint of de-ionised water, lavender, rose or citrus ones are nice. Oils may leave a residue in the iron though so you may prefer to use a spray bottle instead of putting the ironing water into the iron itself.
Using petals/herbs to make your own can be tricky as some can stain clothing. I've done this but made a concentrate from the soaking solution and diluted it well before using. My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

If you cube them first then cook them less than you normally would for mash or they'll turn to mush. Keep an eye on them and when they're 'almost ready' is the time to take them out and make the potato salad.

Has anyone tried the Swiss way of doing potato salad where you use a sauce which is a mixture of mayonnaise, chicken stock (or sprinkle of powder) and French-style dressing (I just fry the onion in the oil for the oil bit of French dressing then add some vinegar)? They're yummy. Oh, you add a bit of milk too - it makes it all slightly lower calorie than just mayonnaise but much more tasty. Actually now I read it back it sounds disgusting but it is actually delicious, especially when it's still warm.
My Swiss friend used to make this all the time and everyone went mad for it.0
