Hi
Just a quick question about flour
At the moment I have strong bread flour, plain flour & self raising in the cupboard. I make quite a bit of pizza bases/bread & sponge cakes.
I know I could add baking powder to the plain flour to turn it into self raising but could I use strong bread flour as plain flour & add baking powder to it to make self raising? I was wondering as the bread flour has more gluten in apparently.
I'm hoping to make more room in my cupboard by have as few different types as possible and also I can order the bread flour fairly cheap in bulk so if it would do for everything I'd be saving a few pennies as well as making more room. But I need to be sure the sponge cakes will still be nice and fluffy or DD's will be registering themselves as deprived children!0 -

One recipe I have says 1.5 pints of milk to 3 oz pudding rice, and 3 oz caster sugar. You can add vanilla essence if you wish and of course nutmeg to sprinkle on the top.
Grease SC pot, boil milk, add to SC pot + rice, sugar, cook on low 4-4.5 hours or until rice is tender
Hope it helps.

There's only going to be one way to find out for sure
If you just make some bog standard buns you won't really waste anything much - especially since if they turn out a bit naff you just break them up in chunks and serve them with hot custard
These threads will help you to decide about how much baking powder to use:-
Baking powder:
- (& baking soda) defined
- Or Self Raising Flour?
- Turning Plain Flour into Self Raising
And there's a lovely bun recipe here :-

Hi DG,
This older thread might help: Silicon Bakeware
There are quite a few threads on silicone bakeware dotted about but I think that's the best one.
If you go to search this forum,
click on advanced search,
enter silicone into the search box,
then click search entire posts and find posts from any date, you'll be able to see the other threads.
Link here but search links only last for a limited time.

Hi all, I'm hoping to make a big spinach lasagne today and freeze some of it. I'm using Rose Elliot's recipe which has quite a bit of skimmed milk cream cheese in it (which I haven't bought yet!) and suddenly realised that maybe this doesn't freeze so well? I've got the tomato sauce made and the spinach defrosting so I've got to make it one way or another. Anyone any ideas, I'd be really grateful. I had a bit of a disaster with freezing risotto recently and I don't want to repeat it!0

I've noticed that some people freeze milk. Do you just freeze it as it comes - that is in the plastic cartons - or do you transfer it to a different container?

I have some vertical blinds - the ones that look like fabric but are really stiff and woven. Being really lazy (and pretty inept) I wondered if anyone's tried washing them in the bath without taking all the separate strips apart? The thought of taking them to bits, rolling them up and finding pillowcases to put them in makes me feel faint! Not sure how to go about it ...
I have soda crystals, bicarb, vinegar, fairy liquid, stardrops and bio washing powder (Lidl's finest, obv!) - recipe suggestions?0
