You do need more water in a slow cooker and may need to thicken it up afterwards but I know there's a big SC thread somewhere, sorry no time to find it!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Does black treacle ever go out of date? I have just found some with a BBE March 2007 and an ominous 'dispose of immediately upon expiry' ... do you think I could use a couple of spoonfuls for my gingerbread cake for the Cake Stall at DS1s Fun Day ... likewise my custard powder is BBE April 2007 ... not doing too well here, am I.That's Numberwang!0

Yep, they'll freeze just fine.
If you have space, lay them out on a tray to freeze before bagging them to stop them all from sticking together in one big lump.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Hmmm...
While I'd be inclined to ignore those dates (after a smell and taste test) when using them in cooking for myself - I've got to admit I wouldn't feel happy about feeding them to someone else.
Especially the black treacle, given the labelling you quoted.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. The issue with treacle isn't feeding it to others but a H&S issue. Treacle deteriorates to release a gas which can lead to the tin exploding. I'd advise extreme care on opening, if it's after its BBD.

Hiya!!
I bought my first slow cooker today, and I have a few questions that Im hoping someone might be able to help me with!
Does anyone have a nice chicken curry recipie I can cook? I have chicken thighs (boneless) chick peas, sweet potato and butter nut squash in, as well as herbs, spices and curry powder, oh and also yoghurt but wasnt sure wether this is ok to use in the slow cooker? Also is it safe to cook chicken in a slow cooker, it would be on from when I leave for work in the morning?
Spag bol and chilli- do you just make these as you normally would and put it on med? I have the AW sc and it's got low- which in the manual says it is a keep warm function, medium 6-8 hours and High which is 12 hours these times are just guidelines! will th e chilli mixture not dry out if its left all day? I work at the weekends so on a sat would be out the house from 8.30 till 6ish.
Look forward to your replies and reading the rest of the slow cooker threads!! :jApril GC- 50.00 / 250.00 :j

Hello peeps :hello:
I've made a vegetable curry using my own recipe, however, it's a bit to watery :rotfl: is there anyway I can thicken it up?Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.
All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional0 -
Corn flour will thicken it , breadcrumbs, mashed potato or instant mash, packet of powdered sauce but will alter flavour, alternatively boil the excess liquid off
edit you could add uncooked rice to it so instead of serving separately it's all in one, that would use up some of excess liquid0
