hey guys, any tips on the best way to feed 3 cats?
dry food upsets the constitution of one, so that's out. otherwise are we talking tins, or is there cheaper ways of doing it?
at the moment we spend about £7 a week on them i think, really need to get it down if i can.Trying to be good, not always succeeding. :A:beer:0 -
Hi there
i don`t think £7 per week is too bad really.
We only have one cat now but she costs anything between 3 and £5 a week alone.
She eats tins, any brand but i vary it a lot with some supermarkets own brand and some whiskas/felix/whatevers on offer and she also has Iams too (she will only eat ocean fish flavour) i think this balances out the meat and needing something to keep her teeth good.
She does eat a lot more in winter than summer though.
Every now and again i give her a cheap tin of drained tuna but not very often.
I stockpile the catfood when it`s on offer.

Can anyone remember what it is that i need to soak my pan in to clean burnt on sauce?SD
roasting pan covered in burnt-on food... sprinkle on some biological washing powder, add some boiling water and simmer on the hob for 10 minutes. All that mess will come off really easily.....so they say

Yep i soaked our baking trays overnight in bio washing powder (buy cheap onejust for this purpose)last night and they came up a treat, i do add water though and soak. I am using enamel trays now which are tougher. When i used to get the cheaper smartprice baking tray i would have toclean them straightaway as if i left them for too long with powder on the coating on them would come off!grocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000

Firstly we cooked some chicken legs on sun stripped them and put them in the fridge as soon as they were cooled will it still be ok to use it today, it smells ok.
Next one a few weeks ago i cooked a pork joint but left it overnight in the micro(forgot about it  ) next morning i cut up what was left on it and froze it straight away..........will this be useable or not. Tia for any replies.0 -
Yes to the chicken
though personally I'd be inclined to make this the "last fridge day" and make sure that I use it all up.
As for the pork... hmmm... I've done things like this before - either left it in the microwave, or the oven, or in a cooking pot or pan.
I've kinda made a judgement call on this.
First thing to consider - was it covered? (thinking if so, it's reasonably safe)
Next, the temperature of the room. The warmer it is the less keen I am.
Then, how long for? Again the longer it was the less keen I am.
On the basis of what you've told us - I've regularly gone on to use such things... and I'm still here. HonestGhosts can't type
BUT...
I make sure that I defrost the food quickly! The quicker you defrost, the less time there is for any possible bugs to multiply quickly.
So microwave defrosting is my choice.
Also, only defrost immediately before use. Don't defrost it in the morning and use it in the evening.
Then, when reheating - make sure that it is piping hot throughout. All the way to the middle. The recommended MINIMUM temp ANYWHERE is 72 deg C.
The best way to do this is actually to use a sauce, liquid or gravy. Have the meat fully immersed and bring it to a boil and simmer for a few minutes. That way you give it the time to get good and hot without drying it out.
As I say - it's a judgement call. Hi Elly2,
I was just going to post a reply and found that squeaky has just done it.
