Please be careful using this company. They are quick to take payment but slow to deliver and do not answer phone or respond to e mail if you have a problem.

FYI:
I purchased LED Lights via Groupon. It took them seven weeks to deliver.

On arrival the lights were not as described and I contacted LED Light Zone by e mail to return per distance selling regulations, no reply. I telephoned and phone goes to voice mail "voice mail box is full". I have sent several e mails and phone calls = no response.

I e mailed Groupon, "you need to contact our partner". My contract is with Groupon, you are responsible for your partner.

I have raised a dispute with my credit card provider.

  • Ordered light bulbs 2 months ago from LED Lights Zone. Have made 5-10 follow up calls to try and get the product but no success yet. Very poor customer service, totally incompetent and do not keep their promises. It's not worth using this company, no matter how good the offer. LED Lights Zone is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.

Sorry you got caught out Bill.

I eventually got a refund from Groupon, but only after I raised a dispute via my credit card provider.

I also got a voucher for a discount on my next order to LED Lights Zone - what a sick joke!

  • Thanks for telling me about how to get a possible refund from Group On. I will look into that if I don't get the products soon from LED Lights Zone - although I bought with debit not credit.
  • What an awful company!!!
I bought some lights through Groupon on October 30th and put my order in on Novemer 1st with them. THE LIGHTS ARRIVED TODAY - DEC 19TH!!!

Tried calling them several times and have never gotten through to anything other than voicemail. Emailed them and they responded once saying they had dispatched them and I should wait. 2 weeks later I got another email saying they had only just received the delivery from their supplier and I should have it by Dec 16th.

    Avoid at all costs!!!
  • 0115 924 8156 is a number I saw somewhere and I have been using 01159248163. With the latter I have been able to get through to a person, the problem is they don't recognise my order and then promise to call me back but don't do so, or promise to deliver by a certain date, and then don't do so.
  • I am also awaiting for my lights to arrive, had this email come through .....

    Dear Valued Customer,

Due to circumstances out of our control we are currently experiencing an unprecedented delay on receiving our shipment of GU10 LED Light Bulbs. We are due to receive these on Wednesday the 21st December and will be shipping them out as soon as we receive them. The new estimated delivery date will be between Wednesday 28th December and Friday 6th January due to the postal rush.

We would ask faithfully for your patience whilst we resolve this matter, in the meantime please accept an offer of 20% discount off any product on our website. Simply add your products to the basket and when you check out enter voucher code DISCOUNT20 to redeem.

    Kind regards,
    LEDLightsZone

I eventually received my LED lights. They look OK, but the light output is not equivalent to a 50 watt halogen, maybe 35 watt at best. How can you tell how long they will last? I would not like to depend on their 2 year warranty.

Do a charge back if you can.

This seems to be a standard complaint, not limited to this company and not even limited to LED lights - CFC's seem to be similarly 'optimistically' rated.

My LED Lights Zone products eventually arrived today, even though in my last call with them a week or more ago I think it was we agreed that I would contact Group On for a refund, since they consistently couldn't identify the order and said the products weren't in stock. The problem was then that they just couldn't track late orders. Anyway I would still recommend to avoid this company. Testing the actual product, the colour quality and lack of shadows seems decent, the brightness was average.

I work in the LED industry and actually know a lot about these kind of products, we even tracked whole lists of products and statistically analysed their claims of brightness vs the reality. What we found is that, on a worldwide basis, LED bulb manufacturers regularly overstate the brightness equivalent, typically by 10-50%. So when you are buying say a "60W equivalent" LED bulb I would make your purchase decision on the basis that in reality it might be closer in brightness to a 40W incandescent bulb. If the packet shows the number of lumens this is an actual measure of brightness rather than power or power equivalent.

About 800-1000 lumens is a genuine 60W equivalence and there are very few LED bulbs out there today with that amount of brightness. About 500-600 lumens means only equivalent to 40W. Similar logic applies for halogen.

A genuine 60W replacement of good quality from a top manufacturer is retailing at around £35. This product may be better than a CFL (fluorescent tube one) in colour quality and be on a par with an incandescent bulb, but it won't be brighter or much better. At this price, they are very poor value at the moment and only worth buying for curiousity, very early adopters at the moment. Yes they will last longer and save you money on electricity each year but at that price you will see the payback after 5 year, or 10, or never if it doesn't last that long. (LED if they are from a top manufacturer genuinely are able to last many years with the brightness steadily falling over that time, e.g. 70% after 10 years. But that's in the manufacturer's lab. In hot real world conditions results are more variable although the failure is more likely to be due to overall electrical connections or other components like capacitors, rather than the actual light emitting element failing.)

If you see someone offering a 60W equivalence for say £10 that probably means lying about the brightness or poor quality manufacturer. I am writing this in January 2012. By 2013-2015 prices will fall big time and you will be able to buy good quality LED bulbs that are genuine 60W replacements for £10 or less. That's the time to try it. By then they will pay back the investment after only a a few years.

For the time being you might try a halogen one if you're keen since the LED is more established here at these lower brightnesses and isn't so costly. But it's still doesn't represent great value. Yet.
