It's not worth me even asking.

It is, even if it's only for the moral high-ground.

  • Morning all!

I'm off on another exciting course this morning in Birmingham. Woo!
Going to be taking my own lunch so I don't spend anything too. It's bad enough paying the train fare!

I have activated my Halifax card and am going to do the max balance transfer I can do on it (£450). It's better than nothing and still interest free for 22 months so I can then pay off the bigger card and save myself some money.

Only problem is I can't see how you can log into the account online? Does anyone know? I can see the log in for normal bank accounts but not cards!

  • That reminds me I need to activate my H*lif*x log in when I get home, see if the joint account shows up in it and that's where the mortgage will be soon

No news on the house front from me :( rang the solicitor yesterday and they still hadn't had the searches or the contract through from the other solicitor. I want them to hurry up so we can set a date for completion.

Busy time at work too, supposed I should get back in the lab :(

  • As beanielou says £400 is plenty, if you really wanted you could probably do it for £50 or less! no trips out and make the most of the beach and pool then you'd only need a bit for something inflatable for the girls to play with (been given these twice on holiday and handed them on at the end of our stay) in the water and a couple of pounds for an airport drink and snack. Young kids don't usually enjoy the sightseeing very much and busses abroad are cheap.
Time, Tide and Diarrhoea wait for no man. ;)
  • Thanks all, I was being a bit dippy and have managed to log into Halifax now and have done a 0% (for 22months) BT of 434.78 (Max available) so will update my sig in a few :) Apparently it goes through on faster payments too so should be done by next working day! I remember the last time I did a BT it took a bloody week! Got to love faster payments. And the bloke on the phone sounded cute :rotfl:

Train fare today was £8.50, and have dance tonight which will be £4. Have updated my spending diary too. :)

Was speaking to a colleague today who went to the same resort last year and spent £600 over 2 weeks with 2 older children and her smoking.. so I definitely think £400 is enough! :)

  • Evening all!

Quick update as there's a small (but important! :D) change to the budgets. We're no longer having street team every friday, and instead it's going to be every other tuesday starting next week so more of us can be there for the half hour session so it'll be cheaper. Hurrah!

Had normal dance today so have added £4 to the spending diary, but also due to not having a team class this week I bought Ash some dance shoes that were on sale there (second hand) for a fiver, so I've still spent the budget all bar £1.

Ooh I forgot the change from the train fare went on eggs for pancake day. Well £1.48 of it, the last 2p went into a women's aid charity tin..

Maybe I should use that £1 from the dance budget to restart the £1 coin savings pot :rotfl: Trouble is I rarely get any £1 coins now! Will get one a week from the girl's dance after adding one to the dinner money and one from my normal dance lesson, but without knowing how much the extra lesson will be for the team practice I'm not sure if I'll get any extras.

But at at least £2 a week it's got to be worth it... right?

I've also been thinking about work stuff and career moves. I've found a professional qualification that as well as being linked to my current work, could also potentially open new doors to bigger/better things in the future. Trouble is it's at least £800 and there's no financial assistance/finance available and it'd all have to be paid for upfront. It's a genuine course/exam through a nationally recognised body so I know it's not one of these scam courses where they take your money and run, and the next course doesn't start til Nov/Dec.. but the fact it's £800+ is scary, especially as when I was doing OU I got full financial assistance due to being a single mum. I would also need to do subsequent courses/exams depending on whether I use it as a stepping stone onto another career move and those get more expensive the more you go up the ladder, but seeing as the £800 one is linked to my current work too I think it'd be worth it short term and long term.

DP suggested looking at paying for it on a 0% purchases cards, as presumably I'll have my cards paid off by Nov and be in a better position to get one of the good 0% purchases cards, but I ideally don't want to go into debt for it as that's totally against my grand plan! I could save, but at the mo the £100pm I'd need is needed for paying off the cards and that....

Hmm.. Something to mull over I think. At least I've got some time!

Edit: and why is it my 'quick' updates end up not being quick at alll??

  • Well done H*lif*ax yesterday they sent me the pin numbers for my new credit card (and OHs card attached to it) but no cards and definitely nothing for the current account *sigh*

They also sent quotes for contents insurance and mortgage ppi. Contents they're quote £88/year is that good? It was unlimited coverage with £5000 office equipment (important as both of us have PCs worth a minimum of £1k possibly more if I save for the monitor I want). The PPI is over £30 a month for both of us, I'm not sure if this is good either, so confused.

Right need to get into the lab, might be back later

I'd say that's pretty good. Mine is normally £50-£80 a year for 15k of contents generally with no office equipment or anything high value... :)
