This is a estimated budget for the week. Will be able to work it out better once I've seen my work diary and double checked I'm not on two courses this week. I know I've got one for definite, but at some point soon I've got another so I need to check.

Either way will hopefully we able to catch up with my bills and also be able to pay some surplus off the credit card. :) Will update it properly tomorrow night once I know more about the week ahead!

Sounds like a good weekend had by all

Nationwide account seems like a fantastic idea to me.

The nationwide one is 2.50% (guaranteed .50% above base rate), but is for first time buyers only, so I'm not sure how this would work if I ended up wanting to buy with DP who isn't a first time buyer. At the end of the day there's no obligation or guarantee of having their mortgage, so I'm wondering if an ISA would be better. There's an online ING account which is 3% fixed for a year with no min/max. Hmmmmm. Not sure what to do now.
Anyone know of any other savings account designed specifically for saving mortgage deposits?

Just spotted a Norwich and peterborough BS account for people with dependants, which is 5% for a year (min deposit £1pm, max £250pm). Might be worth it for the year and then switch? Once the debt's paid off I definitely plan on putting in more than £250pm.... Hmmm.

    Edit:
I've sent off this this account. Even if I don't use it for mortgage deposit savings long term, I still have decent rate interest account which once it comes through I'll start putting the £51.50 into and I'll at least have something started in the meantime. I can't see me looking to buy within 12 months so it's worth getting a headstart. :)

  • Thanks IA

Pay Day today finally  Makes my overdraft look so much better, need to factor in my £200 for this month and £50 due to come out for OHs birthday present for April and I don't think I mind paying the rest off with savings.

Typically the day when I need to make lots of phone calls for house stuff I have loads of meetings at work :( ah well, I'm just happy I can do this kind of things whilst at work.

  • Evening all! I got the confirmation of my new 'mortgage deposit' savings account today do have paid in £1 to activate it and set up a standing order of £55pm starting in Feb. :T As my council tax isn't going out this month or next (for definite this time :rotfl) I've started it now as by the time my Council tax starts again the camera finance will be paid off so made sense to start it ASAP and get it going! If I save for 12 months I'll get 5% back and it's 3% after that so definitely seemed worth doing. It's a no notice account but was highest interest I could find. :)

Have updated my budgets as I've got 2 days out for work courses this week and the train fair is now about £9  so have budgeted £20 for that this. So here's the 'proper' budget now.

    Food £60.00
    Petrol £25.00
    Train fares £20.00
    School dinners £21.00
    Dance £20.00
    Bills £451.72

    total out £592.72
    total in £620.53

    surplus to CC £27.81

If I can get the food shopping down then hopefully I can up this a bit but next week.
Was hoping to get back to normal next week but I've got my eye test. How much is a normal eyetest nowadays anyway? If I need new glasses (which I think I do) I will put off getting them til payday so it doesn't affect my weekly budgets and try and keep the cost down by looking around. Apparently you can get them quite cheap online so will have a look.

  • I've finally found something to use my amazon gift card from that book trade in on. I've ordered the girls the lady and the tramp dvd, and thanks to the gift card it hasn't cost me a penny! Bargain. :) Just a shame I couldn't have the money instead!

    Nevermind :)

  • Morning all! Off to Brum today for a work conference. Don't plan on spending anything other that train fare and am taking my lunch in with me as I have been pretty much every day for a long while! Long gone are the nipping to greggs every day times! I am interested to see how much the train fare's gone up by though, as it was previously £8 but the trainline app now suggests it's £9.20 . I know the prices had been hiked but seriously??

I couldn't imagine having to work in Brum, that would cost an absolute fortune in train fares!!:eek:
