  • okay not sub £100, but using the MSE system I managed to get my renewal quote from £466 down to £311, even staying with the same company. It's the cheapest car insurance I've ever had (I do have 6 points and I drive a fast-ish car) - thanks MSE! I dream of the day I'll get sub £100....!
  • My renewal notice from Direct Line quoted £315 and I managed to get it down to £203 with Saga paying monthly interest free. When I called Direct Line to cancel they said they can now offer interest free payments. Strange they didn't include that information in the renewal notice a week ago...
  • After my old shape micra (V) was written off, I bought a new shape micra yesterday (53) in its place. Cost me £21 to change vehicles over. Insurance is due Sept 11th so I'll see what they come up with!

Was £392 last year but then got £130 cashback thru the Prudential and free breakdown cover!

  • A quick update on my above post. I also was involved in a collision at the beginning of July where a car drifted into my lane and hit my offside and then refused to stop. I followed her up to the next junction where she slammed the brakes on and as it had been raining my wheels locked and I skidded into the back of her hitting her at no more than 5mph. She then drove off. As she had hit me first and not stopped and then drove off after the second collision I thought nothing more of it. Police informed me to notify my insurance company but agreed with me that if you are involved in a collison, no matter how small, that you should stop and exchange details which is what I was trying to get her to do.

My insurance company, the Prudential, who are also now the former decided not to tell me that this lady had made a claim on my insurance. Apparently I did £366 of damage to her car despite the speed I was going, nothing "hanging off" or dented and the Police report saying the only damage was light scratches. I lost my 3yrs no claims - even though I've since been told that a claim only knocks 2yrs off - and my renewal quote from them went from £392 to £1500. Did all the comparison checks and the only sub £1000 I found was with Elephant on a 10 month bonus accelerator for £610 which includes legals/car hire etc. I used this type of insurance from them in my 2nd year and had no problems.

For my newer car with 4yrs protected NCB, the cheapest I found was about £500 so its not that much extra for zero NC's. I've offered to pay the costs of the "damage" in order to get my NC back but I'm in a dispute with them over the actual damage and costs because I believe it is extremely high

  • I just knocked £100 off my insurance, having tried loads of sites, and after one online comparison site I was called back by Cool Connection who gave me a few more companies to try. They were no better until BINGO - one called Acadamy Insurance gave me a sweet deal, including protected no claims, legal expenses etc, for £100 less than my renewal with Direct Choice. They don't do internet quotes, but you talk to a real person! And they have an 0800 number. No cashback, but I'm happy.
  • Using confused.com, I was quoted £126.81 for comprehensive insurance by Co-operative Insurance Services on March 8th this year.
CIS were listed by Quidco as offering £120 cashback...... so I took up the offer through Quidco.
The cashback didn't track, so I started a Quidco enquiry, and CIS approved the £120 on June 16th.
Quidco says, "once you've had a successful enquiry, you should receive the cashback approximately 3 to 4 months after the date the transaction is added."

Fingers crossed.... my year's comprehensive car insurance will eventually have cost....

    £6.81

    This has been great fun.
    THANK YOU, MARTIN !!!!!

Not quite down to £100 but only £107. Originally £177 but then £70 cashback from quidco with the Co-Op. Could have got it cheaper but read all the customer reviews and decided there were too many bad experiences with some of the other insurers. Very good deal for a year old sports car with 2 drivers, me and hubby. Always manage to get the old 'workhorse' car down to under £100 with cashback.
