I have read this and the cold water washing thread with great interest and have hopefully found a solution to the main problem I have with doing my washing.
I live on a boat and the thought of emptying soap powders, liquids and fabric conditioner into the river when I have done my washing quite upsets me to the point I have to take all my washing to the launderette. Which is uber uber pricy!!!
Could anyone tell me if the ingredients of the home made powder or the gloop would be harmful to the wildlife in the river?
Would be fab to know the answer.
Thank you All :A
Where does the laundrette water go? The main reason to use eco soaps etc is that all water returns to the same place in the end.
Your home made products will be animal friendly depending on the soap that is used, if you really want to go all the way then there are some recipes here:

but if you use something like soap flakes then there shouldn't be much in it beyond fat and lyre.
Dr Bronner liquid soap looks expensive but is very concentrated and is so safe it can be used for everything from laundry to shampoo and tooth soap

Tried the gloop. Not great, but not bad either. I think I will be washing only lightly soiled items with it, but still, thats a saving."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

Hi,
I plan to make my first batch of laundry gloop at the wkend but as I have always used powder, I don't have anything to put the gloop in so I can put it in the washing machine with the clothes.
If I put it in the drawer it soaks away almost immediately so putting it in with the clothes would be best, wouldn't it?
Does anyone have any ideas what I could make/use?
Thanks0 -
Why don't you try phoning one of the big washing powder companies and asking them to send you a liquid measure for your liquid? They have this facility in case you buy a bottle that doesn't have the measure bit with it.
There is a freephone no for Proctor & Gamble if that is any help.

I measure out approx. 100ml of gloop and bung it in straight in the drum on top of the clothes. For small wash-loads or things which only need to be freshened I use about half of that. That means there's no clogged-up dispenser drawer to clean up at intervals, which is a bonus for the lazy housekeeper (i.e. me)
I don't see the need for those wash-ball thingys at all0 -
Lovely, thanks for your replies, will see if I can get a ball, if not straight in the drum it goes.0

what recipe are you using for the gloop please?:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

i saw the duggers making a laundry gloop, it looked like they just put it in the wash drawer. in the past when i used washing liquid i used to put it in draw and worked fine. even tho it seemed to seep away . but getting a ball for free is always handy, even if you use it just for measuring.0
