Hi, I made laundry gloop a while ago but it smelt a bit vile (think it was the soap I used). I have a couple of questions if someone could point me in the right direction:

If I use Fairy soap, will the end result smell anything at all like fairy washing powder?

For the essential oil, can I use the oil you put into oil burners? Ive got lots of the stuff knocking around, just wondered if I could use it this way.

    Thanks!

I used Fairy household soap in my laundry gloop but I can't tell you whether it smells like Fairy washing-powder becuase I've never used it myself so I have no idea what it smells like. I think you need to find some Fairy soap in the shop and give it a good sniff to check whether you like the scent of it. It does smell quite pleasant though.

You can use whatever oil you like, just make sure that you give it a good shake so it disperses in the mixture properly. I used a freesia scented oil which I've used in a burner and that certainly wasn't a proper essential oil by any means. I don't think I used enough as I can't discern the freesia at all, it just smells like the bar-soap I started with.

ETA: Now I've had five minutes to think about it I've realised that Fairy also make a toilet soap and perhaps you were considering using that rather than the household one. My response is the same: I dunno what the toilet soap smells like so can't say whether it's the same scent as the washing-powder but somehow I doubt it. It's not likely that a manufacturer would produce a toilet soap which smells the same as a detergent, would they?

    Hi Shelley:hello:

I would imagine it will smell like fairy, and I would imagine you could use those oil - but i am only guessing as I have never made it myself:rotfl:. Hopefully someone will be along soon who makes it and can answer your question

In the meantime, have a read through the thread here and check as someone may have asked these questions before :)

I'll add your thread to that one later

    Thanks

Thanks both, I think I went wrong before using the blue imperial leather soap.

I'll attempt it again later and let you know, wish me luck!x

I made my first batch of gloop a few days ago and instead of being a blancmange consistency it's pretty solid. It's not rock hard, I can scoop it out quite easily with a spoon but when I washed a load on a 40 degree setting there were a couple of lumps clinging on to the clothes when I got them out of the washing machine. I know I could melt in hot water everytime I put a load in for washing but I often don't have time to faff about before I go to work.

Could put it in a saucepan with more hot water to make it more runny?

    TIA

Did you put it in the drawer or in the drum? When I used to use gloop I used to put it in the drum as it dissolved better and also didn't use quick wash just a standard wash. Also are you putting too much in?

Apparently you can make dry gloop. grated soap. soda crystals and borax mixed then just add a spoonful to the wash or dilute in hot water as you use it. Am going to try this as I want to avoid the risk of blockages or residue.:T
