The buses round here have seats JUST for prams and wheelchairs.
The wheelchair space says "wheelchair space. This space is for use by a wheelchair user." along with instructions on how to place the wheelchair.
The 7 buggy seats say "pull down seats: for parents with buggies"
The single seat behind the driver, and the 4 seats after the pram area say "these seats are for the elderly or disabled. Please be readyto give up this seat if someone needs it more than you do."

Seems pretty darn clear to me :D

Not pram/wheelchair related but got on the bus last night to find about 4 people standing at the front of the bus. Looked full, but there were no less than 3 spare seats at the back, 1 with someone's shopping on the seat and the other 2 where empty window seats and someone was sitting on the aisle seat.

This really annoys me and I don't let people get away with it, I always go and ask them to let me sit down/move their shopping (politely!), despite their efforts to ignore me and pretend I'm not there.

And she wasn't sitting tutting - it was such a huge effort for her to move it was painful to see.

Maybe not her, but a number of posters on this thread would have been, or were.

so the sign indicates it is a space for wheelchair and pram users
    the lady was/is neither
your real issue is with those sitting in the "Please give up these seats for someone less able to stand" seats.
As I said previously I believe the wheelchair logo indicates disabled people, not just wheelchair users. You don't have to be a wheelchair user to legally park in a disabled bay indicated by the wheelchair symbol, do you?

legally? when did the law come into it?
the bus driver as a representative of the bus company made the instruction as to the use of space
I personally dont park myself on a bus.I'm either seated or standing
  • So why did no one else get out of their seat to give it to the lady

Whilst the wheelchair logo is sometimes used to mean as a generic symbol for disability, I still think you have misunderstood the status of this space, and the fact that the bus driver, who saw both the mum with the pushchair and the lady with the stick standing before him, and said emphatically that the space was for the lady with the pushchair supports that. In any case, it can't possibly be a generic symbol for disability on a bus or parking space, as no one suggests that the deaf for example can use these slots, and those with serious illnesses cannot.
  • Just want to reply to someone on the previous page. I have a phil and teds sport buggy/pushchair , same size as a single 3 wheeler, and as wide, (baby hides underneath) I could NOT empty the basket underneath of my shopping say 5/6 bags (if I go to town, I buy alot as don't go often), Then you would like me to fold my buggy which I need two hands for, my 9 month old wriggly little boy and my 2 year old....
Now, I know I am no supermum but COME ONE!!! Get real!!! Its NOT safe!!! My city centre is 4 miles away so it can take up to 45 mins to get their too! (rush hour) Not safe, end of.
