Got my eye on a few sad looking mushrooms now - those are my quest for the weekend0 -
I had to throw a bag of salad away today which I had forgotten about. Im not going to buy next week but just get half a cucumber and gem lettuce to make sure its used rather than being thrown. Fridge is basically empty until my shop comes tomorrow. Tonight we have fish fingers, chips and beans with bread and butter.0

Could you not re-freeze the spare ribs you don't need once they are cooked? Mind you pork can be a bit iffy can't it, I'm sure someone else will know.GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100

Hi to everyone
I thought when I started reading this thread that I dont really throw much away, BUT when I cleaned my fridge out the other day I had to throw away 6 eggs (date was well well out of date), some humous and some yogurt, all of which I should have eaten, sooooo from this month I will declare any throw outs and shame myself again!!!! Mind you I am eating out of the freezer and cupboards for the majority of the month as I want to buy extra for Xmas and New Year and dont have anything left in the Xmas budget.£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund0 -
I havent posted here for a little while, as I've been super busy with work and my boyfriend coming up 2 weekends in a row, and making so much chutney for christmas presents!! (16 0.5litre jars of chutney!)
To be honest I havent really kept an accurate tally of how much I have thrown away, but I do remember throwing away the majority of a loaf of bread. I bought it reduced in Te$co for 11p, but I had a couple of slices and it tasted like petrol (strange I know, but it was disgusting!), so that was about 9p.
Another disaster was trying to make veg stock from peelings. I'd read other peoples' posts on here, and a few food blogs and thought it sounds perfect, I thought to myself why have I not done this before? So, after making all of the chutney I tried to make stock from the veg. I had read that you could put onion skins in, so my stock consisted of onion skins, a broccoli stork, tomato skins, and pepper innards. One hour later, I tasted it and was almost sick, bleugh! it was disgusting! It went straight down the sink. So, although it didnt cost me anything, Im quite sad that it tasted so bad. Any advice? Im thinking next time to leave out the onion skins.
Im going to say my total for November was £6.50, which is way above my target of £3. Sigh, I thought I was doing so well.
I'll stick with the same target this month, and hopefully I'll stick to it.
Keep up the good work guys!0 -
Well, 0p so far this month. Just roasted 2 parsnips for dinner, except I grilled them rather than roasted . Normally I would have chucked them but I couldn't bring myself to do it, so 'chargrilled' parsnips for dinner. Tasted much better than they looked. Which is not saying much :rotfl:.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Had to throw a huge fresh pineapple away the other day - not happy at all.
DD2 pestered me to buy it and I thought she had used it as it was missing from the kitchen - but no I found it fallen behind plants on windowsill.
Gone totally mouldy and really squidgy soft -so 99p declared(whoopsied to begin with)
To make up for it I managed to salvage the melon that was going the same way and chopped up in tub for all to raid.
