Um...
The chinese chicken balls dinner I made on Monday was fabulous. Unfortunately the leftovers have been all but inedible - everything has gone dry and chewy. I've got one meal's worth left and I just can't face it. That'll be about 75p worth. Takes me up to £2.26 so far this month.
I've also got lots of the dipping sauce left. I'm going to have to freeze it in ice cube portions and add just one, perhaps, per slow cooker meal so that it adds "something" without taking over the flavour.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I am an alchemist again
Made a pigeon cobbler using odd bits of fresh and frozen (defrosted!!!) pigeon that DH has shot recently (very nice it was, too)....and then I made stock out of the inedible bits
It is cooling in the pantry
I am, yet again, pathetically pleased with myself :rotfl:

I think I will have to join this thread in December as this month is rather too busy one way and another. I hardly ever throw anything away but have got a bit careless in the last few weeks. I live alone with OH living locally and we eat together a lot but not exclusively. Sometimes it can be difficult to get the variety without having leftovers which are sometimes a bit difficult to use. My kitchen freezer is full of UFO's in tiny pots (so must be almost a year old as the NY'sR was to label everything!). I had it hacked at one time but soup can get a bit tedious for lunch everyday.
In an attempt to use the odds and s**ds in freezers I asked OH to bring down some stewed plum last night. We ate what turned out to be the contents (curried veg.) with chicken and rice tonight!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Wow Pixie Dust - pigeon pie is most impressive!
For the person who wanted a new take on carrot soup - how about carrot and red lentil? Makes it nice and thick, proper stick to your ribs stuff for this cold weather!0 -
Not braved the Philly yet
.
To add:
6 cherry toms, 20p
spring onion & celery trimmings, say 10p
Running total - £1.45.
Philly not too bad, around 5p scraped off and I used the rest in a pasta dish. Homemade soup left - 1 in freezer, 1 in fridge for tomorrow, around 5p worth left over & chucked.
Running total £1.55 but no alchemy to reportA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Annoyed to have thrown away loads - I estimate £2.30, bringing my total to £3.00. Slung an unused butternut squash that was mouldy at both ends, I know it was £1 as the sticker was still on it. The last bit of swede & root ginger in the fridge drawer with it had got mould on too, so out they went & I decided not to keep the veg trimmings for stock as they were in the same drawer... All into the compost bin for collection the next day :-(
I cleared out the end of the orange stuff, but don't feel bad about that as we'd used it well, mixing it with seed spread to make an orangey spread.
I took soup from the freezer to work on Monday, & have another carton out for tonight as I really don't have time to cook... But I'm using the soups & creating more room in the freezer ;-)0 -
Been away and then ill so haven't been keeping up with the forum but have been avoiding throwing things away. Did lose half a lettuce - about 30p - and some carrots that have gone mouldy (about 40p) but otherwise everything has been eaten by us or the dogs!0

Hi just popping in to say have had to throw away ends of lettuce away - probably about 20p worth but the label says it was bought a fortnight ago - just goes to show these best before labels are a bit pants sometimes.
In fact still have quarter of a savoy cabbage in bottom of fridge that I keep using and it's over a month since I bought it!
Veg has certainly lasted longer since I laid a tea towel at the bottom of the fridge drawer and put veg on top of itCrazy Clothes Challenge 2012 £57.20/£100,CCC 2013 £68.67/£100 ,CCC 2014 £94.32/£100

I use kitchen towel in mine. It soaks up condensation and, being paper, shows up where it is damp and so can be changed when needed.
I did once try one of those special salad keeper thingies but it never seemed to make any difference.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
