  • My total still stands at 33p :j, but I made a loaf of brown bread last weekend for the first time. I tried to eat as much as I could, but it was really dense and to be honest, not very nice. So, I plan to make breadcrumbs with it, as I cant think of how else to use it (I dont really like bread and butter pudding), and I dont want to throw it away. If I were to throw the rest of the bread away it would cost 40p, so not too much money, but I dont like to waste anything!

2x carrots and 1x sprout - the rest in the bags were fine these however were turning to liquid!

Cauliflower leaves - are they edible?

  • Had to throw half can tomatoes that were mouldy - cant even remember opening them, might have been in fridge since before starting challeng!

Oh and I stupidly cooked too much pasta at tea time - normally would keep it but you know when you are just sick of having the same thing and you know that in next day or so it wont get eaten? well it went in the bin.

    Guess about 50p chucked.

    Cross mama is cross :(

I made a curry last night and put aside a portion for eldest to eat when he got home. He left it in the microwave and it has had to be binned this morning.
I'm gonna ban him from facebook until he's eaten since that's how he got distracted and forgot about it.

So, since it cost around £5 to make I'm gonna have to cost it at a third of that. £1.67.

We pulled some cauliflowers out of the garden yesterday. Total failure..largely due to a whitefly and cabbage white infestation. Bad Hawthorn didn't think of using the leaves :o Since the seed was a freebie I'm not sure how to cost this one, so I'll call it a round £2. My total just went through the roof
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Don't throw away food challenge started 30/10/11 £4.45 wasted.

  • Hi can I join this challenge. I think we throw away or compost too much. So today I made a trifle with half a slightly stale sponge cake that nobody had eaten.
Yesturday I made Banana bread (but added chocholate drops).
I have found some parmazan cheese in the fridge I am going to make cheese scones.
I did throw out some grapes

When I make bread crumbs, I whizz up a load in the food processor, then freeze it so I can take out a bit at a time, so I guess it would be worth doing that? I like bread pudding - completely different from bread & butter pudding, but I'm posting from my phone so can't find a link...

If you want to make brown bread, but are used to white bread, you could try using a mix of white & brown flours till you get a blend your happy with, that's how I got my husband used to brown scones ;-) I like brown beard, but I use about half & half for scones.

Cauliflower leaves are quite peppery in taste, like a nasturtium leaf. DS2's pet snail loves them!
  • My OH is currently eating half a chocolate gateau (shop bought- ss picked - horrible) as I can't face eating it or throwing it away. Oh well, no waste today even if OH will put on lbs :)
