I've been making HM bread sauce with mine, as I got fed up with croutons. Its surprisingly easy.

I whizz my old bread through the grater & mix it with grated cheese & keep it in a bag in the freezer to use as a topping on cottage pie or fish pie. Hester

Ooh, am liking that idea! thank you!

You can freshen it up by wetting the crust and bunging in lowish oven for about 15 / 20 mins

You have to use it fresh & warm once out of oven or it goes stale rapidly

What's the best way to make croutons that will keep in the freezer? Watching the calories so don't want to deep fry!

I made cheese toasties today for us all using bread that went out of date on the 28th. Its fine to use out of date bread, will make a bread and butter pudding with the rest of the bread I have left.

stale bread is best for toasting - but what about bread and butter pudding? if you like it? otherwise - you can whizz it up for breadcrumbs and keep them in freezer (handy for stuffings or coating scotch eggs or fishcakes) or even to use with cheese on baked pasta dishes.

I always use my stale bread to make homemade chicken nuggets... Get a piece of chicken breast, cut into chunks, dip it in egg, then in the breadcrumbs...and then I just panfry it in a small amount of oil! Lovely.
