  • Sproggi quick question if you don't mind :) - do you just slice & freeze raw mushrooms, or have you cooked them first?

I've never been that adventerous with freezing raw veg (have always done leeks and recently tried onions) but I'm really trying to cut down on wastage/cost as much as I can.

Bigger packs of things are so much cheaper to buy (but much harder for a singleton to get through!) so I'm sure it would be more cost effective to buy these & freeze what's left rather than buying fresh wee packs all the time.

I love pigs in plankets - is there a recipe on the list? Mrs M

No recipe needed really, I used a pack of 12 skinless sausages and a pack of streaky bacon; I cut sausages in half and wrap each one in half a streaky rasher; I cook mine around the meat, they probably need 30 to 40 mins depending on how crispy you like them.

I've packed mine, uncooked, in 4's in the freezer so I won't waste loads of them like I did last year :o
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I freeze mine raw, sliced into the tubs that I have saved from when we have had chinese. I use them in stews etc and they have been fine.
I freeze all my veg raw, really cannot see the point in wasting gas/electric cooking them first when it seems to make no difference to the flavour:)

Only second day of my new week and month of 4 weeks. Yesterday had to buy a loaf at 47p and today put 12.50 of diesel in the car, got to be careful as going away next Monday for a few days, but as its self catering it shouldnt be too bad as long as DD1 chips in her half of the food bill for her and DGD. (its not always forth coming, I think she reverts back to being a teenager and forgets to pay for anything, even though shes 36!!!!!) Love her to bits really! will be taking SC with us!

    Spent 12.97/100

I may have had a bit of a slip last week: had a housewarming/halloween party; cooked all the food (cakes, chicken, biscuits etc) from acratch but vastly overspent on alcohol despite going to Aldis and then using Sainsburys vouchers. Tried to undo this today by weekly shop at Lidl followed by a quick stop in Sains for anything Lidl didn't have (pearl barley etc) so pleaaed with that- off to total up and will then update on my total :0s finfers crossed!!

Happy to report in, that both yesterday and today have been NSD :D Not so happy to report that this is due to back trouble and that I can't move very well. :(

But wanted to say thankyou to Mrs Mum and the mini toad in the hole recipe. Much appreciated as they are £3.99 for 12 at Ocado.

Also Recovering Spendaholic, I am very impressed with your reduced bargains. The crumble especially. :)

So on the positive nothing spent this weekend and in the process of meal planing for next week.

Off to watch the X Factor now.

Hope everyone is having a good, safe bonfire night.

That's my shopping done for the week - I'm a little annoyed at Asda being out of carrots and a couple of other staples! This trip was £23.86 but my OH spent £3.79 yesterday so I'll add £27.65 to my total, bring me up to £83.21/£180.

I did a stock take of everything in my freezer and kitchen cupboards last week and made up a meal plan based on what I already have in the house. It's shocking how much stuff we have stored!

Been through the freezer today and have enough meals in for the week. Will only need fruit, veg, dog food, loo rolls and packed lunch stuff from Mr T tomorrow, so hoping for a low spend. We'll see :D
