Disturbingly festive post Buffy!! Hope your toothache gets better. Vodka and Chinese takeaway on the menu here (thankyou Mr Lassy) so feel a totally unproductive night ahead...bliss 'Forget injuries, never forget kindnesses' - Confucious0 -
It was quite festive wasn't it?
I am feeling better no toothache and generally resigned to my fate on Monday. It is 4 and a half days till the end of term and I can do that.
I am away to sort my life out today. will report on progress later. The less time I spend faffing about on the computer the more I get done in real life.
hopefully I will be posting later on (Merlin time) with news a clean upstairs and sorted Christmas presents.

Am having a lunch break! going wellish.
saw this on a mate's FB and have nicked it as I thought it was so good. The past always appeals to me as I do percieve it to be so much simpler. I don't suppose it was! but I can dream...........

The Green Thing
In the line at the store, the cashier told an older woman that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment.
The woman apologized to him and explained, "We didn't have the green thing back in my day."
The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment."
He was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.
Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But we didn't have the green thing back in our day.
We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day.
Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry the clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that old lady is right; we didn't have the green thing back in our day.
Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana . In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right; we didn't have the green thing back then.
We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn't have the green thing back then.
Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.
But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then?
Please forward this on to another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from a smartass young person.
Remember: Don't make old People mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to make us mad!!!!!

Ok, reporting in a little later than planned.
I have emptied and shredded four boxes/baskets of paperwork which I have been ignoring since Feb. Not as bad as it seems since I bank online mostly and only use one credit card. The vast majority was charity stuff and junk mail (bloody Virgin Media, you make one enquiry and they don't leave you alone!!) apart from the bank stuff, cc and phone bills.
I have removed four plastic boxes from the Shed of Doom (and at four o clock this afternoon when the cardboard box I was standing on gave way it very nearly was my doom!!) full of old work and general crap and taken out and sort of re organised the shed. I have a fair bit of stuff to get rid of in there and have placed it all by the door to make it easier to remover.
I also hid all my Christmas presents and decided to Freecycle a collection of Magazines to give me more space (am I never going to make and bake etc, at least not for the next year!)
(am watching a horror film and you know the moment when you realise X is going to happen and it happens but you still jump. hmmm. That was me just then)
I have my old money folders in a box out there. I am going to start new ones now I am debt free. Well ok I could have done that six months ago but hey! I didn't! In any case my old ones were all red, to remind me of my debts but I have some old pastel coloured folders that I shall use instead.
Tomorrow I shall finish up my various bags and move the bed. I am a bit worried about the contents of my filing cabinet....i tried the "Getting things Done" system and it was not for me.....This is the after effect. A pile of stuff never dealt with.
In theory it should go into the folders no problem but.........i bet I end up binning most of it!
Ok 12.30 had better go to bed now

i'll be thinking of you tomorrow, well done on such a good start at the decluttering. I packed my first moving box today - the stuff from under the kitchen sink.0

Hey Buffy,
Am really embarrassed. I've only just found your diary.
So sorry to hear about how tough things have been. I hope the time out has given you some well needed respite from the stress.
Hope you aren't too nervous about going back tomorrow. As you said, only a few days until the end of term.
Good luck!
urg x x0 -
Hello Urg, please don't be embarrassed I didn't answer your message, really sorry been forgetting all sorts of things lately....:o
Well I feel better then earlier, I basically cleaned and rearranged my room today. Moved furniture, put up a new table, moved some books and a small unit down stairs, got rid of two bags of rubbish and two bags of recycling. Have gone through everything aside from my filing cabinet and four shelves. Am knackered which is good cos then I should sleep. Plus I have clean sheets and a new duvet, bedroom looks lovely.
Overall I will need to "sort out filing cabinet" and work resources but that can so wait for the holidays!
I have done so much decluttering this year (and some pointless storing in the shed) I am very chuffed with it all. Looks so much better and far more functional!!
Thank you for your good wishes for tomorrow. I feel like this :eek:but will act like this.............
thanks again
Love Buffy xxxxNevertheless she persisted.0
