I had a static for a few years - and found that if I let them the rest of the family expected the same meals they had at home! which meant that it wasnt much of a holiday for me!
after the first few weeks I decided that a different menu was in order.
breakfast was Cereal - they had either Weetabix or Corn flakes (or whichever is YOUR choice).
lunch - I didnt do it - that was eaten out!
supper/dinner - what could be either cooked in the oven or on top! one pot meals being the preference and my OH quickly became the bbq king - the kids being in charge of salads!
find a good chippy and chinese/indian takeaway - and insist that at least on ONE night you will sample their goodies!
never mind OS - stock up on convenience foods! its YOUR holiday too and why should you spend it slaving away in a kitchen?
allow the kids to eat junk - its a holiday isnt it - and tbh junk like burgers is easy to do!

You could take a packet of pasta and have a few nights of pasta dishes either macroni or tuna pasta bake. We always take the homepride tuna tomato pasta bake on holiday as all our family like this and its easy to make as mostly in the oven for 40 mins max. I also take tins of soup and hotdogs and buy some rolls whilst there for lunches. Usually breakfast we take the wee boxes of cereal (from B&M) and then get bread so we can have toast or cereal.

    Jacket potatoes.

So easy, just bung them in the oven on your way out and they are ready for when you get back.

To make life easier buy the packets of grated cheese and salad.

Very little work and washing up.

When ever we went away in a caravan my mum always used her pressure cooker. She could do a full meal in one pot and it used less of the gas bottle. I can't remember any of the recipes now, but I know there are plenty on here.

Our absolute favourite is 2 tins of corned beef 2 tins of beans and 2 tins of potatoes all cooked together in one big pan. It's lovely and feeds 4/5 of us.

    Try this ...

    THREE TIN BEEF STEW

Cheap, quick and easy, and also delicious, warming and filling. Useful as an emergency meal, especially if you have no water supply, as it uses the water in the tins. Also useful for camping or caravanning. Not recommended for backpacking, though.

    Makes 4 x 250ml bowls

    INGREDIENTS

1 tin of stewed steak in gravy
1 tin of new potatoes in water
1 tin of carrots or peas in water

    METHOD

Open the tin of steak. Put the steak and gravy into a saucepan.

Open the tin of potatoes. Drain the water into the saucepan. Cut the potatoes into 2cm (1 inch) pieces. Add the potatoes to the saucepan.

Open the tin of carrots or peas. Add the peas or carrots and the water to the saucepan.

    Stir thoroughly.

Put the saucepan on a medium heat. Bring to the boil, then turn down the heat until it is just boiling (simmering). Put the lid on the saucepan and continue to cook for 5 minutes until the potatoes are cooked.

    ADDITIONS & ALTERATIONS

Use both a tin of carrots and a tin of peas.

    Add a beef stock cube.

Add a teaspoon of dried parsley.

    TIPS

If any of the potatoes are damaged, mash them up and add them to the saucepan. They will help to thicken the stew.

I make a roast dinner the day before we go and then take the leftover chicken and veg and have bubble and squeak with chicken when we get there and the rest of the chicken can be used up the following day making either sandwiches if I CBA or wraps using some tortillas, mayo, green pesto, salad veg, sundried tomatoes etc. No cooking but everyone loves it and thinks its something a little special.

I am taking four teenagers camping for two weeks.

I have a gas cooker with a tiny grill and two rings....... and a budget.

Given that they eat like they were starved as babies I have no idea how to keep it up for two weeks from tins.

    Can I have suggestions please?

How about potatoes, easy to boil up and mash. Have with tins of beans and sausages. Also pasta - lightweight, easy to transport and cook and you could serve with jars of pasta sauce. Rice and stag chilli from a tin?

One of my fave camping brekkies is tinned beans and sausages with an egg poached in them. Basically pop the beans and sausages in a pan, crack in the eggs and pop a lid on. Cook on a low heat until the egg is done to your satisfaction. Make lots of toast to mop up with! Yummy!

I am always amazed at the stuff can be found tinned. A trip to the local supermarket revealed tinned haggis the other day! You also can't go wrong with tins of soup etc, suprising how filling it is. Also check approved foods for massive tins of nice stuff!

Have a great trip - I'm envious. Would love two weeks of camping! x
