Caravan, camping and holiday cookery

When we go camping we usually have a BBQ for dinner, sometimes do jacket potatoes that I have pre-boiled and wrapped in tin foil, baked beans on the hob and salad.
Breakfast has to be a fry up, leftover sausages, beans, bacon, mushrooms and egg with any leftover rolls or baps.
Lunch is usually a sandwich and a big bag of crisps to share.
I may make a chilli before we go next time and take some crusty bread for us adults. The children will probably have some pasta sort of thing:)0 -
I'd recommend cooking for a few days before you go (stews, casseroles, pasta sauce etc) and then freezing it - helps keep your coolbox cold and can be used as they defrost - just need to use your camping gas for rice/pasta. Lots of people also use slow cookers when camping if they have an electric hookup - but can use before you go and then freeze.0

we are going away this weekend to a static caravan. I wanted to cook myself to save money as it gets so expensive to eat out. any ideas what we could have? Need to sort out 3 dinners, and breakfasts and lunches0

Do you have a slow cooker ? Or halogen ?
I live full time in a caravan (not static) and cook every day from scratch normal food so could possibly help with ideas if you give me an idea of what you are working with.
A full breakfast can be done in a slow cooker as can spag bog or curry and a roast can be done in a halogen.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

Just have what you'd have at home. A static will should be well enough equipped to accomodate that. I've been in quite a few of them all my life.0

I used to take a cooked chicken and salad which could do a meal and sandwiches for the next day, cereals or bacon and eggs, sausages which could also be used as a main meal with mash and beans.. soup if its chilly , rolls and bread.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I'd got for a fry up for breakfast on the 2 days, then on the last day as its check out have cereal or toast for breakfast.
Lunch - go for something easy - sandwich or roll, cheese, beans, spaghetti on toast.
Dinner = Spag Bol, Shepherds Pie, casserole (mgt be easier than a roast).

If your oven cooking you can also double up the oven and add jacket potatoes with it.
So verstile - add any veg you want (add with the mushrooms), whether fresh or tinned veg.
xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
We caravan a couple of times a year and generally I cook the same easy meals we have at home, such as:
Sausage, mash and beans
Shepherds Pie & veg
Chicken, baked spuds and salad
Spagbol
Chilli
Breakfasts are usually bacon/egg rolls or scrambled eggs or croissants as a treat.
Lunches are generally sandwiches, soup or baked spud as its the only time I don't mind cooking them the whole time in the oven as its not our electric or gas :-)
When we go away I normally take the bulk of food with me in a cool bag. For 3 nights for us 3, I would take:
Eggs/bacon/sausages/milk/butter/sugar/tea/coffee/bread/cheese/croissants/jam/spuds/soup/beans/toms/sweetcorn/rice pudding/custard/tuna/mayo/yogurts/chicken/minced beef/pasta/ragu jar/mushrooms/apples/bananas/juice/crisps/salad/wine/cakes/biscuits. Sounds a lot, but really isn't.
Also, I tend to take end of jams, cheese, coffee, sugar, pasta etc, then throw away the jars, so less to bring back. Or use sachets of sauces.
Don't forget bedding and towels including tea towels and loo rolls. To repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it,requires brains!FEB GC/DIESEL £200/4 WEEKS0 -
