I noticed today that my Waitrose now has an automatic, free coffee/drinks machine installed next to the C/S desk?? Didn't have time to investigate but wondering how this works.....? Anyone else used one? :o

The set-up at the store near me involves flashing your card, telling them what you're having and they swipe the card and/or give you a receipt. You can then make your own drink.

However, overuse may mean it's out of order more often than not.
NB You may wish to read this article before using as you may be accused of being the great unwashed! My observations are that the former are the most badly behaved!

at mine you just make your drink then take it to the till when you pay with your waitrose card, pay for the shopping and that's it!

I think practice depends on proximity to the CS/tills and store size. I use three Waitose stores in my locality. One smallish supermaket with a machine next to CS (which does as described above); one is a standard size supermarket with a restaurant and cafe (flash card on ordering beverage) and one Little Waitrose with machine some distance from tills which requires you to take the drink and/or shopping to the tills.

P.S. if Labour get their way we may see the end of the MyWaitrose card as we know it!

I actually wish Waitrose would stop doing the free coffee and newspaper.
Went today for a few things, and decided to go or a coffee afterwards.
Couldn't get in to the cafe. Full of pensioners and parents with young kids taking advantage of the free cuppa.
It was like a bloody community centre..

Were you going to pay for your coffee then?

Don't be such a misery - you are lucky to have a caf! and when you become a pensioner you might be glad to have a free coffee and some company.

And if the Conservatives get theirs, we'll certainly see the end of the NHS as we know it. They're doing their best already........

3010, I suggest you edit and quote from the article and link it, or MSE mod may have to take it down.

Yes, I was going to pay for my coffee and a sandwich as well, but left withouth buying anything because there was no seats.
Think this is going to backfire on Waitrose.

Absolutely. I know which one concerns me the most, and it's not a free cup of coffee for wealthy pensioners..
