Merchant Shipping Act 1995 it is an offence for people to remove items from a wreck if they conceal or keep posession of cargo and refuse to surrender it individuals must declare what items they have taken and send it back to the official Receiver of Wreck, where the question of ownership will be resolved
not a good freebie if you get arrested :eek:0 -

I do live here and I'm not interested in getting Free stuff. Our beautiful coast is covered in oil and there are lots of birds dying. Not to mention the damage to the sea and the economy for tourism. Some of the containers with dangerous chemicals have come off the ship. Not all of them can be accounted for. if they sink and stay in the sea then they are posing a permanent potential danger as they will not be moved - just left in the sea. Anyone on holiday here this year? ....... no probably not. Who wants their kids swimming in potentially dangerous water?
Can everyone please stop talking about it like it's a great thing and they wish they were here. Our beautiful World Heritage area is being destroyed before our eyes. It's the only world heritage site in England and it's heartbreaking.
If anything, the 'freebies' should be given to the locals to sell to cover the money they will lose from their usual livelihoods.0 -

I know it's the only 1 of something World Heritage in England - maybe Natural? Bath is man made! Anyway, it's irrelevant and that's not really my point! It's being ruined and it's a beautiful place that people rely on for their livelihood. I'm just saying if people lived here, they'd feel very differently about it being such a great 'freebie haul'.
Edit : http://whc.unesco.org/en/statesparties/gb (list of UK World Heritage - only 1 natural in England. Thanks littlesnuggy)0 -
Ships lose containers all the time its nothing new but its rare around the uk because of the calm sea's but its prolific in other ocean's.
Last time we sent things to ghana our shipper lost a container overboard we had to wait to see if our things were inside but we were lucky our's were in another.0 -
Snow Angel, it is a real shame for the coastline and I for one can sympathise with you, it will takes months to clean up.
I think the OP was tongue in cheek though with the post so no harm meant, just surprised it wasn't posted on the Grabbit board"Sumptus censum ne superet"
Mental blocks are just hurdles to overcome in life.

Maybe I'm just being oversensitive. ApologiesI hate to see any animals in pain and distress. It's also a disaster for the locals around here and the economy. The walking here is stunning and it's a real shame. It's just horrible to see the pictures of the coast and it's horrible for anyone who loves visiting this area with their families. I certainly don't blame people for scavenging for goods - if it's locals doing it then all power to them. i hope they get enough to cover their losses. I'm not sure of the legal stance but they may not be able to get compensation for their wage losses as it's as a direct result of the storms that this is happening.
