Bought clothes for toddler niece but she never wore them

OP, were the clothes practical and comfortable? I ask because I always refused to put my son in jeans when he was small as they just didn't seem like they'd be comfortable for crawling around in (however cute they looked!) I always dressed him in joggers as I felt they were a) softer on his skin and b) stretchy as he was very active.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

you seem a sensible woman so why not ask her? it could be any no of reasons but you wont know unless you ask:o
My MIL is quite old and jamaican so likes to buy in primary shades for my daughter which she really didnt suit as a baby, i would however dress baby in what MIL had bought to keep MIL happy. she bought a dress once that was black and pink striped with a rara skirt attached which looked quite tacky but my daughter took a bit of a shine to it so although not my taste , it was worn..a lot:eek::rotfl:
It is difficult to buy for kids (ive got 5) and you havent just got the parents tastes to consider , you have the childs tastes as well!
my son is currently wearing (since cowboy show on fri at school) a pair of hello kitty uggs borrowed from sister, white studded belt cut down from my old belt, his own check shirt and jeans plus my straw holiday hat.....when i showed him a pair of boys uggs on next website (very similar to what hes knicked off Blossom) he turned his nose up and said they would make him look ugly:eek::rotfl::T
I really wouldnt over think what has happened, my step son is due to be a daddy soon and as his tastes run very high, im opting to buy something sensible for the flat instead:o***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
I've just had a peek at Boden...14 years on i still couldn't and wouldn't pay those prices lol !
Worth looking at the reviews for eg cardigan not soft and too itchy
dress reviewed as "shapeless" ...maybe the clothes just didn't fit too well? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I had a look too. I couldnt justify their prices but as a gift would be well pleased, theyre stuff looks lush, OCCASIONALLY asda do some similar lines for maybe a third of the price.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

Just had a look on their website and the prices are shocking ! No way would I spend those amounts on clothes.
Have to say the only Bodens I know are my family, Boden is my maiden name!

If they are truly skint they might have been insulted ad felt you were flashing your cash when they have none and while you made a generous gesture they saw you being boastful..
I wouldnt let mine wear the new (sale) boden stuff for nursery/play group/trotting to the park.. it was church on Sunday stuff so it is easily imaginable it would be saved for best an outgrown.. opt for Next in future or give vouchers!
We have stuff from Squeak unworn.. but mostly because people bought for her age and she is huge so it didnt fit.. or they got long dresses when she was crawling so not suitable..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I genuinely thought that a couple of dresses, some tights, a cardigan and a coat would be worn.
I think I will just wait until nice is old enough to choose her own clothes from whichever catalogue I have around and buy something she picks out herself.
Forgive me if this has already been suggested, but is possible that your SIL is embarrassed and offended that you had to buy these expensive clothes for them (rather than buying them themselves) and is therefore not using them because of that?
It's possible she's offended by the gesture (however well meant it was).February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
OK, am more caught up now.
No, it isn't up to the OP to financially support her SIL and family. However, if I was strapped for cash, designer clothes would be viewed by me as a) inappropriate and b) a way for the giver to show me just how much they can afford, that I can't.
That's just my viewpoint though, and OP's SIL may view it differently. I don't know, at this point, only the SIL does.
All I know is that there are so many other gifts that would've been more appropriate at this time.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
i have to say if a family member did what you did i would take it as an insult that you think what i buy isnt good enough..you wont know unless you ask thoughHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

I have a one year old and a two year old and anytime my MIL buys clothes for them its one, maybe two sizes too big for them at least. I never tell her as i dont want to hurt anyones feelings so i just put them away for when they will fit and thank her. No harm done. Maybe thats what happened here?
Or i know with my children, if we are having a day in the house or just a walk to the local shop or whatever comfort is my priority and i often just put loose clothing on both of them. Fancier things i keep for days out or meals/parties etc. Maybe SIL has considered the clothes as impractible for everyday use but is thrilled with them for a special occasion.0
