from cold I still have to hit ctrl alt delete - which is why this thread started. It's not even that big a problem as I've more or less learned to live with it. But, I suppose, it's best to get it sorted0

That's OK not covered previously. I've no idea what motherboard. I just googled this and indications are that I have to download (free) software to find out0

what make is the PC? You can use CPUID to tell you the motherboard manufacturer / make0

That's unlikely to give any results given he's used the recovery discs (unless the kit was on before recovery was taken).
I'm leaning towards a cold boot issue, which is almost as bad to diagnose or fix.0 -

That looks promising. I don't have a Windows Vista DVD but I have been advised that I can download one. I have created 2 Recovery DVDs which (almost) take my pc back to factory settingsToxteth_OGrady wrote: »0

You can boot into vista so you don't need to use DVD. Run EasyBCD from your normal Vista and follow Type 3 instructions.604!0
