i'm still waiting for mine. they took the £1.95 days ago but no chocolates yet.

seems like they've gone majorly downhill and i won't be signing up for anything else from them again. just hope they cancel my membership without messing me about.

When I had this offer in the past it was easy to cancel online, you simply selected a reason why you were cancelling and pressed submit and it was done. I went into my account this morning to cancel my new subscription (on a different email and name from the first time) and it said there was a phone number to cancel :(

If you read some pages behind, there's another way of doing it without having to ring.

Just read back through the thread and when I cancelled my account last time I did exactly what was mentioned in thread number 56 but I did the same procedure today and it said I had to call their cs to cancel :(
  • Same happened with me today -the woman claimed I had agreed to a pay scheme in the terms and conditions which meant I got the extra £5 discount which was only valid if you received two boxes. I told her this wasn't the case as I was looking at the terms and conditions on the website and that wasn't mentioned anywhere. (Wasn't actually looking at the T&C but know it wasn't mentioned otherwise I wouldn't have signed up) She then said on this occasion she would allow me to cancel but in future I had to remember that the £5 discount was only valid if you let them store your card details and receive two boxes.
Husband is cancelling his now - fingers crossed they don't try the same with him.

I received my box yesterday, had a letter through today to say there was a problem with my payment details and that I needed to contact them. Went on the website and it said I had £1.95 to pay, so I paid it and then rang up to cancel. The girl on the phone accused me of checking a box on the website in order to get £5 off the real price of £6.95, which was an offer only available for people who were going to receive and pay for the next box. I said I hadn't ticked any box and she said 'I can see you've just been on the website and ticked the box'
Got my !!!! in my hand then and just paid the extra fiver and made sure it was cancelled. So now got to tell my mum that she will have to pay £6.95, they weren't even that nice!
Has anyone else found the same?

I just wan't prepared at all for them challenging it, so I started to doubt myself and then just gave in! She told me they have never offered a £1.95 promotional box, it was then I wished I'd done a print screen! Sneaky! Well for the sake of a fiver I'll never buy from them again.

Mine still haven't arrived either. Hrmmph.
  • Did any of you clever ladies take a screen print of the £1.95 offer at the time? Maybe you could post it up, so that those of us who have been challenged / overcharged can prove what we signed up to?

Seems pretty underhand of Hotel Chocolat; if they don't want people to cancel after spending a couple of quid and receiving one promotional box then they should specify that BEFORE we sign up and pay them! Not charge us more and then accuse us of lieing!

Shame on you, Hotel Chocolat / Chocolate Tasting Club!

Something definitely needs to be done about this; a job for Martin and his team, perhaps?

Just a thought, does anyone know where the original link came from? Only thing I can think of is that it was a link clicked through from another page, such as 'click here to save £5 on your first box' ? Does that make sense? Just thought it might explain why she was adamant on the phone they don't do a £1.95 one-off box.
If I'd known I was going to have to pay £6.95 a) I wouldn't have bought them and b) would have gone through Quidco!
I think they're p*ssed off at all the people buying the £1.95 box and cancelling straightaway and trying to recoup some fivers, it certainly wasn't the pleasant phone call I was expecting (was actually hoping she'd give me a decent offer for some more!) :o
