  • apart from fruit what do you mix smoothies with fluid wise i mean?
milk? juices? ice? what make it thick?
as you can tell from my question i've never made one before and quite fancy the idea

I use orange juice, a banana and a handful of berries. I usually use berries from the freezer (we picked a lorry load of blackberries last summer/fall) so that helps thicken the smoothie. Banana adds a nice creamy thickness too.
If you want it thicker, add less orange juice and more fruit; thinner, add more juice and less fruit. I don't like adding ice as I find it dilutes the flavour.

    i quite like....................

banana, strawberries and kiwi, although I will confess that sometimes......... I do add a wee drop of honey

I know it defeats the object but sometimes the bananas seem a bit past their best so it doesnt taste exactly the same.........

    but its still bl&&dy lovely!

    Is that really a problem????

As an experiment I just asked my 3 year old what she would like for dinner and she said

"soup (soup is always mummy made), juice, a spoon and a princess fork" (word for word  )

Surely getting children to make choices about their diet is not a crime, I personally use it to encourage a positive realtionship to diet and nutrition rather than a negative.

I agree. I'm more than happy to give my kids a choice of one or two things on the menu plan. It makes it much more likely they'll enjoy it if they had a say in what it was. Sometimes they "help" make it. This is not every day by any means but I really don't see the problem with it.:D
Of course it does present a problem if they choose different things. Then the negotiations begin.
  • Ok - u seem to be doing fantastic but drink loads of water too if you can - this is the best thing to detox and trust me you may not like it at first but water is so easy to get used to. The only drinks i touch now are water and fruit juice (never concentrate if you can help it) (ok and the occasional cup of tea - but that is very occasional) It makes you feel much more energetic.

Just to add to the point about water, an even better way to detox your body is actually with green tea.

Its full of antioxidants, contains no calories, minimal amounts of caffeine, is good for your teeth.
It also contains high levels of vitamin c, 4 small cups of green tea a day is equivilant in vitamin c to 2 oranges.
So if you dont like fruit too much, get onto green tea!

You can also use natural yoghurt or tofu (the stuff in blocks) for a nice thick smoothie.
  • Well done Mrs A! Good progress and it's okay to occasionally fall off the wagon, so long as you climb back on - which you have! Good girl!!
