as the title of this thread suggests yesterday i bought this book as asda its an eating plan to change the way you live your life etc (you might have seen it on tv).
i read the book and was utterly fascinated i suffer from digestive problems, depression, seroiusly overweight etc.
the book makes sense to me
So what i want to know is
should i rush out and buy a juicer
should i rush out and buy fruit and veg to juice in said juicer
anyone tried it and do they feel any better
and finally do i really need all these supplements she goes on about, i only eat chocolate and crisps and chips (VERY BAD I KNOW) my gp is always nagging me about my diet.

Changing your diet to more fruit and veg will certainly help you lose weight. You will probably feel healthier too. I like fresh juice, but found it such a hassel to make (and cleaning the juicer was SUCH a pain), so I just eat the fruit as is (it's better unjuiced as you get the fibre then too).
I had a look at some of the suppliments Gillian says you need, and they are expensive. Just adding 5 portions of different fruit and veg a day should give you plenty of vitmens and minerals. ;)

Eating more fruit and veg won't make you lose weight. Even if you give up the crisps and choc won't make you lose weight. It will only prevent you gaining more. Snacks are the very devil for gaining weight usually.

However, if you don't like veg and fruit much, then a juicer might be a good idea because you NEED to eat these things, regardless of crisps and choc....small details like vitamins, minerals and fibre, you know! If you think you could drink them rather than eat them, then go ahead and buy one :)

Eating them is better, but drinking them is far better than consuming zero!
  • Eating more fruit and veg is great. You will probably lose weight, you will have more energy and your skin will be better.

However, 'Dr' Gillian McKeith is a total charlatan.....I wouldn't waste your money on her supplements as they contain little that you could not get from eating a healthier diet.

There are TONS of great recipe ideas on here, have a look at some of them and gradually adapt your diet. Speak to your doctor. Introduce more exercise (slowly, if you haven't done it for a while!)...just a few long walks will make a difference.

Don't rush out and buy a ton of quinoa and miso soup....you'll never eat it. Just jack in the choc and crisps and eat some fresh stuff and homecooking - you'll feel like a new woman

    Good luck!

OK. For the less savvy amongst us (that is me :rotfl: ) how does a juicer differ from a food processor or liquidiser? Apart, apparently, from being a pain the the backside to clean.

Toxic Lemon's description is a good one - but the fibre in fruit and veg is alsogood for you. It helps you to avoid constipation and keeps your digestive system moving and cleaned out. Plus, if you are looking to lose weight, a whole apple is much more filling than a glass of apple juice

Gillian McKeith's regime might be a bit too much for someone who reckons they live on chocolate and chips. Try introducing some healthy eating habits one at a time - could try Boots' Change One Thing ideas for example

    thanks for your replies,
it does seem very extreme but i think i will incorporate a few of her ideas after speaking to my dear gp,
    porridge for breakfast
fruit juice and herbal teas would be great as i manage to consume vast quantities of tea in a day probably in excess of 30 mugs.
but to be honest i do live off sweets choc crisps and chips and my family go mad at me.
i know my body is seriously suffering from this, but i think it might be a bit extreme to follow gillians plan to the letter i havent even heard of half of the stuff mentioned in the book but it is a very good and fascinating read.
    thanks again

  • Yes no problem making smoothies with the kenwood attachment. They are lovely and much better for you than choc and chips.:D

    Hi Mrs A
Wish you luck with your new diet. I would def recommend eating the 5 portions a day of fruit and veg, you will feel so much better for it. but also maybe just multivitamins? when we eat junk food, it prevents the absorbtion of the vits and minerals so these are just a safe guard.

p.s I have a juicer- they are fab and soo quick
