I found all the algae and seaweed whatsits impossible to find even in our healthfood shop.
She says on TV that the specialised food is not more expensive than all the takeaways her victims were eating but if you dont buy a lot of takeaways then her supplements seem expensive.
30 cups of tea is an awful lot per day. I only drink 4 to 6. That is 30 times the calories in the milk plus loads of caffeine.Even just cutting back on that will help things.
I do like her idea of piling all the weeks food up and getting a good long look at it. That is very off putting and amazing the amount of brown food that is usually there and lack of green.

Good luck Mrs A! Like the others have said, make changes a little at a time so its not too great a shock for your body!
Cutting back on the teas is a good idea and reduce the chocolate little at a time. Its really hard I know, I'm trying to eat more healthily but sometimes only some choccy will hit the spot!;)

I occasionally make smoothies in my liquidiser but as I follow the GI diet as much as possible they recommend that you eat the fruit rather than drink the juice as it then takes longer to digest so filling you up for longer plus you get all the healthy fibre too!

I have to admit to feeling a lot better in myself since I've been having at least my 5 portions a day!

    all the best

fruit juice and herbal teas would be great as i manage to consume vast quantities of tea in a day probably in excess of 30 mugs.
 how do you fit them in??! Assuming you sleep for 8 hours that only leaves 16 hours in a day - roughly one every half hour
If you're going to cut out all the chocolate, caffeine etc, be prepared for "cold turkey". Your body will have become reliant on all the chemicals, and stopping suddenly can produce nasty headaches & other side effects.

On the plus side you will feel much better after just a few days, and upping your consumption of fruit & veg will improve your health. I'm told frozen grapes are good for sweet/sugar cravings.

hiya folks, thanks for your many replies,
regarding cups of tea, yes its true i always have one in my hand, even take it in the car with me, my cup is never empty. on the plus side though i changed to decaff about 6 months ago and yes it was hard i suffered from big time caffiene withdrawl.
been a good little girl today though only had 3 cups of decaff tea and im now on my second herbal one, and i had porridge with banana for my brekkie, even braved the scales 13 and a half stones so will reward myself with a juicer when im at 13 stones.
gonna try making a smoothie later as i have loads of fruit in. and i seem to have an abundance of carrotts so there is a big pan of carrott and corriander soup simmering on the hob (is that soup healthy).
    thanks again

i have to say that i agree with most of the posters on this thread. It cannot be done overnight.

My best advice would be to do things one at a time. If you normally eat 2 packs of crisps a day try and cut down to one. If you have 30 sups of tea aday then can you survive on 25 with something else (like water) replacing the other 5?

There are other ideas amongst some of the OS recipes regarding how to incorporate more friut and veg into meals - ie grate carrot into tomato based pasta sauces or frozen peas into shepherds pies etc.

Cut back on some things (like choc and crisps)
and replace some things with better equivalents.

Focus on one thing at a time and don't overload yourself with the 'I have to be good' all the time mantra. Most people day that if you are good 80% then you can let go a little the other 20%.

good luck and its great to see that you are so positive about wanting to make positive changes to your diet. I wish i was quite so determined....!!

If I want to eat something sweet, I eat some fruit first. Sometimes I then don't want the sweet, sometimes I eat less sweets, sometimes it doesn't work and I still eat all the sweets, but at least I have managed another portion of fruit :j
    Worth a try?

    handfull of blackberries
    handfull of raspberries
    6 strawberries
    and 2 bananas
i added the juiced orange and grapefruit

I don't follow any of Mckeiths eating plans but I do have the 'you are what you eat cookbook', which is just recipes. (ISBN 0718147979)

Theres some really nice stuff in there including juices and smoothies, breakfasts, soups, salads and lunchboxes, main meals, quick bites, snacks and treats. I recommend it and use it every week or two but not as a strict eating plan.

I do eat healthly and its because i prefer those types of foods to junk foods. Of course i do like choccy and the odd pudding but because I eat well say 90% of the time I feel no guilt at having some chocolate or a biccy! Its all a balance!

It can be done - I've done it and I can't say I've got huge amounts of willpower. I used to eat 4/5 bags of crisps per day and 2 or 3 choc bars. I knew I had to make changes so I stopped buying crisps (no crisps in cupboard = no crisps to eat) and started buying fruit. I buy myself one nice bar of choc a week e.g. Lindt and then have a square when I fancy one. If I feel peckish I eat an apple/orange. I've managed to change 30-odd years of bad eating habits in the last few months....honestly, if I can do it so can you.

    Go for it, Mrs A!

Good for you on deciding to make some changes! I really recommend The GI Diet, by Rick Gallop*. You could probably borrow it from the library. It is not so much a diet as a sensible long term eating plan, and it is very easy to follow. As Taplady says, it is recomended to eat the fruit, rather than just drinking the juice. Fruit is very good for you, but too much fruit juice, even though it is vitamin rich, is not. If you juice it you will end up consuming a lot of natural sugar in a very easily absorbed form which gives the same 'sugar high' and subsquent crash as all the things you think of as being unhealthy. Eating the fruit whole slows down the absorption so you get the slow release of energy that keeps your blood sugar stable and stops you feeling hungry again. Slow release energy is the fundamental principle of the GI Diet. Of course, fruit juice is fine in moderation, but don't be tempted to juice everything in the fridge that's all!
