The sausages I'd bought were "prime lean pork". And if that doesn't rule out the yukky bits then ... it's never done me any harm so far!! :p

It's meat isn't it? Only "modern" man has a problem with using everything on an animal. Once, when meat was expensive and scarce every bit was used. We are so wasteful these days.

Couldn't agree more with this! It's only disgusting because we are so used to having everything in clean plastic trays butchered nicely for us so we don't see anything yucky. It's just waste! Just because the concept isn't nice, doesn't mean it is unhealthy! I watch the programme but she does annoy me a little!

    The below from website http://shopping.guardian.co.uk/beauty/story/0,,1852353,00.html

'Reclaimed' meat, such as pork connective tissue, is common in cheap meat-based products such as paté and sausages. Made from the last scraps of meat and offal left on the carcass after the more nutritious cuts of meat have been removed, it goes through a number of processes in order to make it palatable.

mmm sounds delicious, (sorry just wanted to get my point across).

With the earlier comments about the women on the show the other night not looking a size 14 I do agree - then again I put it down to the camera - I myself am a size 16 (in most shops) but can get the odd 14 and in other shops cannot get one leg into a size 16 - depends on where you shop. I exercise (horse-riding, gym and bosu class each once per week plus dog walking nearly everyday (dogwalker gives me the occasional day off :-)). I like food - am just trying to cut down on the portion sizes - I did this successfully before Christmas and lost 9 lbs without really trying - been tough since Christmas though. I like red wine but try to restrict myself to around 1 bottle per week (again not really managed this since Christmas but still trying). I try to eat healthily but have a sweet tooth (which is a bit of a failing with me) and I know I'm not getting my correct fruit and veg portions at the mo. Different things work for different people and some of it depends on how much time you have to prepare food. I don't eat pre-packed apart from pizza and I just made my first home-made pizza (including the base) last week and it was so much nicer.:T :T

These are nutrients and are not processed.

I know it s only sausages, but why make a point about eating crap foods?

and another thing.. why do people ask their children wht they would like to eat for dinner? (heard several people yesterday in supermarket asking this)
no wonder that obesity levels shot up if left to children to decide?

  • I think I finally found a way to make brocolli more interesting - fry a finely chopped garlic clove in a little olive oil, add a tin of anchovies, after a few minutes over a low heat they will 'melt' - you can also add a few dried chilli flakes if you like. Meanwhile, steam some brocolli florets for about 3 or 4 minutes and then toss them in the anchovy mixture - add a twist of freshly ground black pepper but NO salt (anchovies are salty). Result - tasty brocolli (one of the so called 'superfoods' and a portion of Omega 3 rich oily-fish) - tried this last night [got the idea from Nicholas Clee's 'Don't salt the aubergine' book] and it's really good! Probably helps if you like anchovies though! :) He says it also works as a pasta sauce (with the brocolli cut into small florets) or with other green veg like courgettes or even with cauliflower.

If you are not an anchovy fan then this recipe sounds good too:
    Broccoli with Olives and Feta

By the way, A little feta cheese crumbled into some cooked spinach is very tasty too (don't add salt as feta is quite salty - and avoid 'Tesco finest' feta which is so salty it's inedible! Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference and M&S feta are not much better, but Cypressa and Attis are good brands and not over-salted...)
