Not read much of this thread, just the last bit. But wanted to say when I was younger ( not quite pre Noah!!!) a size 12 was 34-24-36 ( bust, waist, hip measurements) . Now we're told Victoria Beckham's 24 inch waist is that of a child!! I was back to those measurements within3 months of having my first baby.
What are the measurements of a size 6 or less!!!!!!
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

OK, call me a cynic (Queenie! You're a cynic :p ) but, seeing the end of last night's show and being told those two women are now a size 14 begs the question .... which shop is sizing their clothing as a 14????
I don't wish to appear rude, but are we seriously meant to believe they are a standard size 14? They both looked like a snug 18 to me; either that, or all those women who genuinely *are* a size 14 must have watched and cried themselves to sleep!!!

Per-leeeease!!! Yes, they lost weight; yes, they looked better for it ... but do not try to convince me that they are a standard size 14, or if they are ... tell me where they are buying their clothes, because I know a 22yo girl who is breaking her heart to know she weighs less, looks slimmer/trimmer, yet still has to buy a size 18/20!!!!

Ah credit where credit is true, they still lfelt loads better and lost loads of weight in only 8 weeks!!!!

I think he main point of eating healthily is to firstly, feel a million times better, then secondly to lose weight. I think if people stopped concentrating on calorie counting and just ate their veg fruit etc cut down on junk, then the weight would fall off without as much effort. Surely its better to feel better for yourself, more energy, more life? rather than soing it to fit into a pair of jeans?

I was food intollerant to wheat, I was miserable, no energy, PMT like anyhing now feel sooooooo much better for cutting out, and eating the veg etc.

I watch this while I plan my meals for the next week - makes it very easy to avoid buying loads of fatty sugary foods! (Although I avoid watching the poo bits :silenced:).

So the programme does have its use after all...

I missed this week but I usually watch it while eating biscuits :p

But last week she put me right off most of the meals that were in my meal plan - especially sausages! Still I got over it with a bit of help from everyone on here and had toad in the hole two days later anyway! ;)
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?

I think that's the key... to change what you eat permanently, rather than go on a "diet" for the specific purpose of losing weight. (Not to say that a "detox" diet like the one GM advocates isn't good for a couple of weeks to kickstart things and clear all the c**p out of your system... I think that's a good idea as well.)

It's easy to see why most people put weight back on after they've lost it on a diet... as soon as they lose the weight they go back to their old eating ways. Far better to cut way down on the junk and alcohol, eat as much fruit and veg as you can, moderate your fat intake, up the fiber, eat reasonable sized portions, etc etc.

When DH went vegan, he lost 2-1/2 stone without ANY effort. No hunger pangs, no deprivation, just good, healthy food.

I never use my juicer. Too much hassle and I prefer just to eat the fruit - much better for you that way. Don't forget, doesn't matter how much juice you drink, it only counts as one of your 5 a Day because it lacks fibre.

Fruit juice should ideally be diluted with 70% water otherwise it gives you too much of a sugar rush and the key thing is keeping your blood sugar levels stable to you don't get cravings. Never get too hungry or too full! Always try to eat fruit with some protein or fat (e.g. I snack a lot on an apple and a few nuts or a banana and some natural yoghurt).

If you eat moderate amounts of healthy food and stay active you will lose weight. Simple as that.
  • Bit off topic (sorry) but I find clothes sizing really frustrating as I can be anything between an 8 and a 12 (very occasionally a 14) and sometimes even buy children's as I'm small.

I had a size 8 skirt and a size 18 pair of trousers that both fitted me "well" at one point!

I would agree with small changes, I replaced butter spread with a low low fat one, switched to soya milk (makes far better porige IMHO) used low-fat cuts of meat, added no oil when cooking and if i was buying a jar/bottle of something make it a low fat or no added sugar version. It was amazing what the small changes made and how it was no different to normal.

I then went on to making sure i removed too much temptation, only keeping a small bar of chocolate in and a couple of packets of crisps. I found myself rationing them as i "never might know when i need them" later on in the week (and i obviously didnt need them at that point!) and if they did go and i needed some more i would walk to the shops to get another packet.

A friend once suggested a way of eating - not really a diet: Eat healthy and small portions etc during the week (when its easier as your often at work and can take stuff in and away from temptation!) and then dont worry at the weekend. I sort of work to that principle and it suits me well. A little bit of what you fancy does you good! :D

It's meat isn't it? Only "modern" man has a problem with using everything on an animal. Once, when meat was expensive and scarce every bit was used. We are so wasteful these days.
Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate! :)
