Gemstar- you're supposedly 'disabled' but 'managing' although it's not really a SAHM situation is it.. it's a SAHD(aughter) you've got. One whom you want to be your 'carer' because it's worth an extra 55 quid a week to you.

I'm an athiest- but by all that's holy, PLEASE be a troll! I'm really , REALLY scared she's not though :(

I'm not sure either, the problem is there are some people who are twisted enough to try something like this.
Moving onto a better place...Ciao

Well Gemstargirl, I don't know how you can say it is a thankless task - it looks like you will be getting a "return on your investment" after these long hard 16 years if your daughter is happy to be caring for you now.
We chose to have our children and my husband and I knew that I would be a SAHM since we did not have a support network to be able to help out with the many school holidays, training days etc.
We were happy to make any sacrifices necessary and as MamaMoo says any TCs etc are a bonus. Had they not been there, we would have just had to manage on less but as for thankless - I would say it is the best "job" I have ever had and the rewards have been endless.

Of course it was a genuine question and why not?

There's £55 going that could be my daughter's, so why can't she claim it?

    Puritanical lot!!

Puritanical? No. Thinking you're a scrounging, lazy, pi*s-poor excuse of a 'mother' who would rather hold her kid back for the sake of £55 than instill some values in her? Yes.
Also, I'm amazed you're off on the sick, being 'cared for' full time. Just yesterday you were claiming you do more work than a working mother. So clearly you're 'capable' of work. Just a lazy sod

I know it will never happen, but I firmly believe that a mum that stays at home to bring a family up should be paid an allowance by the government. It is a thankless task, but a worthy one.

I probably put more hours in bringing up the family than most working mums work.
Working mums get help for childcare, so why not something for stay at home mums too?

I go to work 5 days a week, and need to take care of my 2 kids. NO i do not get any help for the childcare but yes i would like too and i will be able to afford to put my kids to after school club or a nursery.

On a lighter note OP, your wife is entitled to go out and find a job and start contributing to the state that has welcomed her and looked after her for the last 5 years and will continue to do so for years to come.

gemstargirl, you too are allowed to go and get a job and stop scrounging off the rest of us

I would love to. But there just isn't any jobs that would match what I would lose in my benefits if I did that for me to make it worthwhile.

I would want at least a min of £200 a week more than I get now to work. Otherwise, there isn't any point.

Besides which I am disabled, so can't work.
