My wife is now a fully fledged British citizen having come from the Philippines originally and has now lived over here for about 6 years. We had a child who is now 5 and successfully claim child support and benefit. She has never worked here and I am fully employed. My question is can she claim anything for herself? She has a National Insurance number which was applied for when applying for Child support and Benefit.
Any thoughts?

Surely this is meant to say Child Tax Credit and not Support?????I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D0

Is there any reason why she can't work now she is a UK citizen?:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

She is not a single parent so does not qualify for Income Support
She has not paid sufficient NI contributions so cannot claim contributions based JSA
You earn more than £105 per week and work more than 24 hours per week then she cannot claim income based JSA
don't think there is anything else apart from the child benefits or she gets a job0 -

How about you support her having brought her here? Or of course she could get a job and support herslf. I honestly do not think you should expect the taxpayer to fork out for your choices.0

I know it will never happen, but I firmly believe that a mum that stays at home to bring a family up should be paid an allowance by the government. It is a thankless task, but a worthy one.
I probably put more hours in bringing up the family than most working mums work.
Working mums get help for childcare, so why not something for stay at home mums too?0 -

Most working mums go to work, then do exactly the same at home as a SAHM.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0 -
I think the main benefit to any family of the Mum finding part time work is that the Family can take advantage of the Womans an £7475 tax allowance! That's an £143.75 per week tax free!
It's madness for anybody to consider not working, unless your Husband is loaded! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
