and laid them on the spot where our last king was killed.
    Really?

You can trace your roots back to Anglo Saxon ancestors and have no foreign blood?

Weren't Harold's ancestors something to do with Sweden and Denmark as well, the Viking lot?
The Normans were descended from Norse men themselves, not much different from much of the ruling elite in Britain at the same time.

Totally disagree with that one. Does this mean you have to know all about religions, or all the different flavours of the christian church, to be interested in joining in?

It doesn't mean that at all. It means that you should know that Christianity is one religion but many denominations with often important differences. You can go along to any and find out more but if you are going to make promises ie in a christening you need to believe in what you are promising

On a more pratical note what requirements are there for getting your child christened. Obviously going to church is important and although we have been lax we always go at Christmas and do try to go a couple of times each year. I should add that the church we go to (be it infrequently is COE). It seems to me that COE is probably the place for us to continue going....however....hubby's family are dedicated Roman Catholic and I don't know if they will be as understanding or 'flexible' as he is. I'm not saying that Roman Catholic's are not understanding, just that his family are very passionate. However I'm not sure if we could even have our baby christened in a Roman Catholic church, we were married in a registary office and as I understand this might be frowned upon?

So anyone's thoughts would be welcome as I feel like more than a novice in this area.

I'd go with CofE as it'll be a *lot* easier, considering your background and your hubby's background. You already consider your family to be CofE as that is the church you normally attend.

On a practical note, you can have whoever you want as godparents for CofE - and any amount, male or female. (One of my daughter's godparents is RC but all the other godparents, for both kids, are protestant - and I consider my family to be Anglican.) However, if you went back to RC then they are a lot stricter: non-Catholics can only be sponsors (or whatever they call it) and you'd still need actual godparents who are RC.

Speak to your local vicar - or maybe a different one in your preferred parish, perhaps the one you grew up in or one that you feel you have particular ties to. It doesn't have to be the parish you are currently resident in. Remember, the most important thing is formalising your intent to raise your kids as Christians and to choose godparents who will take a genuine interest in your kids as they grow up.

Congratulations on your forthcoming baby. You question so much and deep down you know you are searching for something. I believe in the Communion of Saints and your grandmother is one of them. She in her way is guiding you to search for God. She found him and is happy.

Go with what you really feel would suit you and your husband.

Saying that being the good Catholic that I am get the child christened :):):)

The Op wanted advice on whether and where to christen her child. Therefore disparaging believers in this way is not appropriate and very out of place here.

I edited the 2nd post but the first one you cannot say is offensive in any way shape or form, I do not feel that the second one was offensive but ammended it anyway.

And one more point I feel that you should understand as well here is the simple fact that this is a website aimed at money saving and to be honest if you are seeking religious or anything else that is not money related then perhaps consider posting on another forum that caters for the OP'S questions rather than feeling the need to criticise my post's or indeed anyone else that post's something that you may not agree with.

I'm sorry to drag this up again, but no. The poster said "that is was shocking" that the OP didn't know that the different parts of christianity were not different religions.

How on earth "should someone know Christianity is one religion but many denominations with often important differences" eh? if they don't know.

    That's not shocking.

I have to disagree there, I do think it's shocking and a sad indictment of our country that there are people who think that for instance the catholic church and the church of England are diferent religions. Surely RE lessons would cover denominations and their diferences for one example

Can I just say that I do know about the different denominations....I'm just ignorant to all of the differences, their beliefs and for lack of a better word 'rules'. That is because in the past I have not had a huge amount of interest but I now do.

Thank you to everyone who has offered some advice, an awful lot of food for thought. You've all been really helpful and this has given me a lot to think about. Hubby isn't working tonight so I think I'll share some of this information and comments and we'll have a good long chat about what we think.

    Thank you again.
