It's neither selfish or stupid. Shariah law isn't going to be here ever, so that's a non starter, the rest is being dealt with.erichamster wrote: »That's incredibly selfish and incredibly stupid, you do realise that we all live on one planet right? The similarities between every member of the human race are so great as to make our differences virtually irrelevant. Do intelligent people really still only think about their own country as important?
Also global medical advancements (such as those that might be achieved through stem cell research for example) would benefit us all.
The US is the most powerful country in the world, you can bury your head all you want but what they do will affect you and me. Also, for some at home examples; there are frequent calls for shariah law to be installed in Britain (that is the law that stones women to death as adulterers if they are misfortunate enough to be raped), also honour killings are growing in number, oh and how about 7/7 as a pretty bad effect.
I believe what I believe, I don't worry too much about what other people believe, because that's their choice and anything I can say or do, isn't going to make the slightest bit of difference.
You worry about it if you like, I don't think I'll bother.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

You tell that to my great aunt, who did her absolute best to persuade my mum to Christen me and my brother. She said that my brother was "unshriven" and would go to hell. She also said that my mum needed to atone for the sin of getting pregnant with him in the first place (despite her being married - never got my head round that one).
And then there's my husband, who was given an emergency baptism shortly after birth because it was thought he might not survive. Another overbearing aunt said that he would not be allowed a burial in consecrated ground. I have no idea of the truth of this, but the old biddy certainly believed it.
Don't infant baptisms occur simply because the parents are worried that the baby might not make it into heaven? Otherwise, why not wait until the child is older and able to understand the consequences, as happens in many denominations?
Christening from my understanding is about welcoming the child into the church. Personally I favour a dedication type ceremony and allowing the child to make the decision when they are old enough to make the decision for themselves.
I am shocked at the belief of your relatives, I really did think those ideas had long since gone.Well I see Torry Quinne & Ebayqueen got there own way in the end I am actualy quite disgusted with the fact that you have managed to get a post removed and as I said it was just another religion in my view, it just shows how mad religious types are and they wonder why people are simply not interested in it.
Frankly I feel this religious discussion is totally inappropriate for this forum and the post's on here just show what one sided views religious types have on the world there way or the highway, perhaps they should remember the world is a mixture of all types of people and sitting there on your soapbox is wrong on so many levels.
I want it known that I had nothing to do with any post being removed. I did post that the second was distasteful and you removed it but I did not report them and although disagreeing with the first did nothing about it.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Fair enough Torry Quine, it just seemed like a witch hunt against myself so I appologise to you then.0

Edited the post accordingly in light of your comment, if I am wrong on things as we all are from time to time then I do not mind putting my hands to say so.0
