Charlies-aunt - when my parents got married my mother used to buy a pig's trotter every week as their meat. They mostly lived on soup... So are you sure you should be giving them to the dogs quite yet? After you've roasted them, you could boiled them up to get any meat off them and make stock :D

:) Good morning campers and can whoever has current custody of the yellow ball boot it back in my direction, please? This is the second grey day in a row. Reminds me of that old tag: "No sun, no moon, No-vember!" I love nothing more than a crisp sunny autumn day and a walk in decidious woodlands with the leaves turning colour; so magical. Must hope for one of these this weekend or next so I can go across the city to a tract of ancient woodland and enjoy.

Well, turk's turban squash is still un-roasted as I came in from work yesterday and was so wiped that I went to bed. Not feeling A1 at the mo, bit spinny and "off" but nothing I can quite put my finger on. Suppose it'll sort itself out or turn worse and can be discussed with the GP. When you have pre-existing medical conditions you're never sure what is what, in my own experience.

:D Found something else to give away on Freecycle today and Mum and Dad are coming up at the weekend and she will bring a few things she wants rid of from her home for my to post up. I did put her on her local Freecycle group and we offered some good things, made arrrangements with people to come collect them, and they were all no-shows and never responded to further email enquiries. She gave up on her group in disgust.

:( Beggared if I know why people do such things. I once had a bedside table in a free-ads paper for a fiver; this woman called, wanted it, said she was coming over right now and......never appeared nor contacted me ever again. Musta been one of those alien abductions. :rotfl:I waited a week for manners then sold it to someone else.

Today's cunning plan involves doing some laundry both before and after w*rk and restocking a few items from the health food shop as I used the last of the TVP mince. I bought the previous packet in the spirit of enquiry but it makes a pretty good chili and has the advantage over meat-mince of being in the cupboard if I spontaneously decide to make something. It's cheaper than meat and I suppose it's healthier? I'm an omnivore but I don't eat a lot of meat, having several meat-free days per week.

The stories about cats make me smile. As a family, we've had some doozies. There was one we'd had from kittenhood who was, shall we say, possibly intellectually challenged? But absolutely adorable.:p

This mog had a water fixation and used to come charging in from wherever she was in the house if she heard running water. She'd like to sit on the side of the sink and pat her paw thru running water (which was a no-no as cats are banned from counters and tabletops) and she'd aslo sit in front of the washing machine to watch the clothes go around. For hours, daft creature.

One day I was running a bath with the door open and about 2 inches of piping hot water into the tub when she came charging in from elsewhere in the house at a dead run, leaping onto the bath-stool and down into the tub without a pause. It was the first and last time she ever did that and it was soooooo fast that I could do nothing to anticipate nor prevent it. Poor darling was standing with all 4 paws in very hot water; I can still see the look in her face- she was frozen in shock.

I gasped in horror and grabbed her out immediately and she struggled free and hurtled off. Didn't take any long term harm, fortunately, but she must have been sore for a while.

On a happier note, the parents' cats are in full winter mode and are taking wicked advantage of living with 2 pensioners; herding them with cries into armchairs so they can be sat upon for warmth and affectionate fussings. As Mum remarked, they don't need to speak as they are very very good at making their wishes absolutely clear.

Righty, breakfast is calling so must go sort that out. Hope a good day is coming everybody's way.

Off to a good start today...In my e-mail inbox was MSE Martin's Money Tips e-mail, and I clicked on the Tesco points link out of interest, and noticed that there was another link to check that you'd spent all your vouchers... Now being squeaky tight, I was convinced that none would have escaped me, but I decided to check anyway = RESULT £10 from May that must have gone MIA :money: I've also got £30 on the way...so now have to decided what to spend all this lovely loot on!

I've got an Amazon voucher due from Shop and Scan....for £10 so looking forward to spending that. I'm thinking of getting Nella's War S/H with post it comes to about £3... I get ridiculously excited about spending these vouchers, and getting the most I possibly can for them...

Must book the car in for it's MOT today...and the OH says it's doing lurching, so they better look at that as well. I think it's the way he drives! When we had trouble with the other car it was only him it happened to :rotfl: DS says it's because he drives like an old woman, backhanded compliment to me, as I'm more the 'rally driving' type LOL!

Oh well off to make a difference.

Shegar, I'm not fanatically tidy, I dont mind stuff lying about as long as its not too much. I dont dust and polish very often . But I do hate ornaments all over the place, it drives me insane., one beautiful one is enough I think. And I like kitchen worktops CLEAR. & hide everything in cupboards. I dont like rooms filled with furniture, I like miles of deep lovely carpet. When the kids were home I kept all their mess in their rooms and shut the door so I didnt see it :)

Today I will be taking materials in to the council for listed building approval for the repairs and rebuilding that I'm not sure how we are going to fund. :( DH having been resited to another city is actually costing us a fortune. Because so much of his weektime stuff is in London and I can't get to it he's had to buy some new clothes, plus odds and ends that are essentials ....(cork screw!) and then had to buy some smart office shoes to give the one pair he went with a break. :( Plus the eurostar trips ...even though we're eeking them out, are costing a bit. We've decided to let his room in London go to save some money as it looks like its going to be a few months, but good ness knows what we'll do when he gets resited back here just as swiftly: he'll have to beg a sofa of a friend for a week while he hunts for somewhere to lodge.

    LMAO!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm a terrible daughter (but working on it ;)) as I'm a naturally bossy mare.

Anyway, I wouldn't GIVE Mum away. Her price is beyond rubies and I am a deeply lucky person to have her as my Mum.:o:D

Ohhhhh I'd love tidy kitchen but a distinct lack of cupboards makes it impossible - I've got open shelves (where here when I came) that have all my pots/pans etc on and they look soooooooooooo messy:( but will just have to live with it until I can afford to change the kitchen (if ever).

My wee mog loves water too, if I turn on a tap upstairs she comes hurtling up and launches herself at it. She's a frequent visitor when I'm in the bath too - odd thing:). The other ones hates it. They're both a nightmare for having things "done" and I'd never manage to clip their claws myself - trying to get flea/tick stuff on is bad enough!:)

Would anyone like to come and try clipping our cats claws? I do it one at a time, as that's as many as I can get done before he savages me. He does not like his back end being touched at all (he was hit by a car before we had him, left him very tender) and you would honestly think I was murdering him, the noise he makes if I do anything he does not like. And he has a very good set of gnashers... nuff said!

Mine's much the same, except it's the stomach and back legs that cause the problems: I tried touching one of his back paws last night while we were having a fuss, just as an experiment, and it's only because I've got pretty quick reactions that I'm not trying to type this with nine fingers. ;)

GQ - I had a similar problem with freecycle and gave up on it after arranging collection of an old bed frame with two different people - which involved getting lots of heavy wood out of the shed in the dark after work - and neither of them turned up. I have got an aerial yellow ball, though - I'll try and punt it in your direction but my footballing skills mean there's a fairly good chance it will end up in Germany or somewhere. ;)

Right, I must go and do some work - can you tell I've got a job to do that I'm keen to avoid? :o
Back after a very long break!
  • I have the yellow ball here today too. Got the second load of washing on as we speak. I really must get dressed though as hanging the washing out whilst still in my PJs proved a rather cold experience - blimey it's breezy out there.

I am trying to work up the enthusiasm to continue with decorating our living room today. I can only do a small amount at a time due to health issues and have been working on it for nearly a month now. It's getting very boring!

I only have half a window area and the chimney breast left to do - probably take me 2 days once I get my backside in gear. I must, must, must get started.............................. I'll just have another cuppa and a bit more of a browse on the forums first!:D
