    * This is a libel, actually; silverfish are totally harmless. Roaches, well, I could quite believe that they'd run protection rackets, the filthy beggars. Probably in cahoots with pest control firms..........;)

Silverfish eat books though apparently. They don't like oil of cloves though, so if you scent a cotton ball and leave it on the bookshelf, that sees them off.

I must have the FBI of the pest control world spraying our home. The only roaches we see are on their backs dying or dead already, which I can just about handle.

Went for dinner tonight with hubby. He wanted to take me out for a treat to show how much he values me, but as always it went horribly wrong! It's becoming a bit of a joke that whenever we go out for dinner just the two of us, it turns into a disaster. This time after 40 minutes our starter hadn't arrived.... they came with some mains, but they weren't ours.... then they came with other mains, one was ours, but the starter still hadn't arrived. We ended up skipping the starter, eating the one meal shared, then the second meal shared too. Neither meal was up to much, but the jug of sangria I drank improved matters. We were only charged 1 meal, so it was at least cheap.

The last time we went out for a meal, we discovered after 40 minutes they'd lost our orders. The time before, we were waiting for our mains and it had been a while, when we heard "smash" from the kitchen, I joked it was our meals, but I was right. And this isn't the one venue, the only commonality is that it was the two of us. Maybe we should just stay in!

    Morning all! :)

Sorry to hear about your cat, kidcat :( There's been a lot of pet problems on here recently, it seems :(

v8monkeyboy - don't forget to take care of yourself too, or you'll be no good for anyone or anything. Hope your dad improves (hug)

GQ, you are so funny - I love your posts! :D

We are on week 4 of having tradesmen in replcing the bathrooms - I really want my house back! I'm finding it hard keeping up with housework, as i'm 'in hiding' downstairs most of the time :) I shall spend a couple of hours ironing later, methinks

Went to Disneyland Paris last week for 4 nights - all of us were ill at some point, so it was a bit of a disaster! Took flasks with us to make hot drinks to rake to the parks, though, and snacks either taken with us or obtained from breakfast (I'm not partial to cake for breakfast, but I like it around 11am :D:D) Prices in the parks are stupidly crazy now - much worse than a few years ago.

I have 1 1/2 loads of washing on the line - we ahve blue skies here and it's mild. Heating on for an hour in the mornings to take chill off and agina for an hour around 8.30. Could probably manage without evening one, thinking about it, it's been so mild the past few days.

Hugs all around to anyone wanting/ needing one

And Henri D'Vac is sulking in the cupboard because I wouldn't let him suck up those spindly gangly spiders. I'd always wondered why my flat only ever has that particular kind and then I read somewhere that this species are cannibals of other spider species (!):eek::eek:

We've got those too:eek: I call them vampire spiders because they come out en masse at night and they're pale and gangly and fearless.

    Evenin' all,

I haven't posted for ages but have been lurking and picking up tips, laughing and sympathising.

I'm feeling a bit down at the moment as dad was taken ill last week with a really bad urinary infection which has gone into his kidneys. This led to him becoming very confused and appearing to suffer from dementia. He was so ill, he badly hurt himself trying to get home and the nurses had to sedate him. My sister and I spent the last week sitting with him in 12 hour shifts to orientate him, and I'm knackered from that!

On top of that he's got an aortic aneurysm which may need to be operated on and I've had to cancel an interview tomorrow as I have to see the vasular surgeon with him tomorrow.

The OH is being particularly unsympathetic and my mum is struggling to cope so is letting my sister and I take most of the strain.

Sorry to go on - needless to say that there has been little in the way of money saving or OS going on, but I have made dinner most nights from scratch. Am hoping to bake some pumpkin biscuits tomorrow and am then having a 'day of the dead' celebration with a friend as we missed out on Halloween together.

    Hope everyone is ok.

    T x

(((((hugs))))) So sorry to hear your Dad is poorly. My dear late Dad used to suffer dreadfully with water infections too and they would make him appear to be suffering from dementia - dehydration can do it too. Once he was on a drip, and full of anti-biotics he was ok again. Very unpleasant to watch them like that :(

I really hope he is better soon - stay strong but don't run yourself into the ground, look after yourself too :A
  • Afternoon everyone

Halloween was fab :D The boys went out trick or treating in a big group of different ages. The older ones have worked out they get more if the little, cute ones go to the front :rotfl:

This is the first year I have managed to stay at home and give out sweeties as the kids are older now :T I dressed up and had a huge bucket of sweets to give out. The house was decorated inside and out and DH was a little put out when a family came inside to look while he was eating his tea :rotfl:

The whole estate does make an effort with Halloween.

Well DH Gazebo/pergola/wooden porch doofer whatsit is still standing and is fab for drying the washing under. I have asked him to put rails on the inside so I can hang the Gazebo sides and take them down when needed.

Appointment made for the Dentist on Thursday morning to have my tooth pulled out :( I suffered all night after pinching one of the kids sweeties.

I have had a friend on the phone for two and a half hours this morning as she thinks her OH is having an affair. They were both in relationships when they met and they say a leopard never changes their spots don't they? I did not say that but it must be awful being in a relationship with someone you don't trust. When he was married he had a 10 year affair with someone else behind his wifes back before he met my friend :eek:

This has reminded me to never moan when DH rings me 20 times a day :o I am going to give him a huge squidgy hug when he gets home tonight.:)

    PIC x
