    What other thread?

The new 'It was getting tough' thread started by MSE Andrea earlier today.

Oops - actually called 'Things are getting tougher...'

  • I can't say I followed the other thread but will probably start following both now :-)

I've been having a bit of a worry about money, hence my 'your wise words' thread and being on a no spend week! I am planning on eating out the cupboards and freezer for a while and making weird and wonderful concoxions out of the remnants when it gets to that point :-P

Speaking of freezers, it's certainly starting to feel wintery isn't it! I'll be damned if the heating is going on before november though!

Thanks rachbc for a lovely new thread - and for particularly not mentioning the t word. I try to stay positive and don't like focusing on negative things like things are getting t....... and t.... times ahead. Focusing on that a few times a day gets negativity into your head - not very positive.
Car leaking diesel so had to leave it in to the mechanic - something to do with the injecctor pump. I will benefit from a few days enforced walking now - might be help me to lose a bit of weight as well. Had to put heating on to-night as it is very cold here.

Aw girlies can't you come and post on the other thread? I haven't time to be checking 2 threads. I get little enough done. :rotfl:

As MSE Andrea said as long as we keep it friendly there's no problem with the posts. :D

    Pleeeeeeeaaaaasssssseeeee. :kisses3:

Hey HJ, nice to see you - I know lovely, but i think i'll stay over here with my off topic blethers and enjoy a bit more of a light hearted thread without the risk of offending anyone and leave the others to discuss the economy... I dont fancy another dressing down when regular posters dont take kindly to the thread being cluttered, yet happily discuss their own off topic issues :rotfl::rotfl: When I am brave and want to stick my head above the parapet and consider whats happening in the big wide world, instead of just my own overdraft :) I may venture back xx Until then, I may end up talking to myself, but I hope not! :D

I'll ask a question that I asked on the other new thread - I copied the Every Day Cookies recipe from the old thread, but can someone who has made them tell me whether the flour is plain or self-raising? (recipe said SF?) -ta!

I dont know Mrs Chip, but if it said SF, I would read that as Selfraising Flour (I know its not actually all one word, but thats what it might be...) when I was looking for cookies however, I found this...

My late Dad came from Brechin (Park Road) and we had many a blooming freezing cold holiday there with family when I was a little girl. Dragged off to Montrose and made to paddle in freezing water (as it was good for you :) ,no it wasn't it was icy cold :):) )This was normally in summer around July time so God knows what its like in mid winter.
The welcome from friends and relations was amazing though and my late Auntie Lizzie made the best 'tattie soup' in the world You could almost stand your spoon up in it.
Stock up well on home made soup

The best soup is one you can slice.... :D

Im not from Brechin originally, but not too far from there and used to spend my summers in St Andrews etc... the water wasnt any warmer, yet as kids we happily played in it.. I think we were just used to the fact it was so ruddy cold all the time!! Now, Im like the michelin man with all my layers on, and dressing gowns, hot water bottles etc. I hate the cold - I was born to live somewhere hot and sunny, Im sure of it!! However ... My mum has moved up to the back-end-of-nowhere however, so off to the wilderness I go :)

The freezer is one of the few things I havent sold, as I knew I would need it for supplies to see me through the winter (and the rest of the year).... god its kinda depressing the only thing in it at the minute is icecream!

Anyway - LO was freezing tonight, but am still not putting the heating on. So he had a bath (water was hot anyway from teatime) and fleecy jammies on and two hot water bottles in his bed.... If hes struggling now - whats he gonna be like when he is 500 miles further north!!

Im heading for the Brechin area... dont worry, my thermals are already packed ;)

I have put all of our wellies, thermals, hot water bottles etc in one hamper so when we get there, I know where they are right away! In addition, the heating for the house runs on oil, which I mentioned before and Im not sure how costly that will be, so dont want to start whacking the heating up right away and end up costing myself a small fortune, so thats another reason I wanted to keep all my cozy stuff easily accessible! :D

Our heating runs on kerosene. When you do have to get some oil make sure to phone around as many places as possible. I got some last week and the prices differed by as much as 6p a litre which is a huge amount. My husband buys bulk diesel for his business so we get it at a slightly better price but it still varies a lot from supplier to supplier. I don't think I've ever had my oil from the same place twice. My friend is exactly the same - she jokes that if people who switch credit cards constantly are card tarts then we must be oil tarts!

Welcome back then Jo to this side of the border, you are about 35 miles from where I am, and I am sure there are many more here from the area! You will be not too bad as long as the wind isnt out of the east! When it is in winter look out - thats when we get the worst snow and severe biting winds.
If you have any questions or queries about the area - just shout someone will know!
