I got a lovely venison joint whoopsied in M&S at less than half price a few weeks ago:j
Aah! There's a trick to stopping venison from going tough and it is the cheapest nastiest bottle of red wine that you can find. Marinade the meat overnight or longer and then casserole, using the red wine in the sauce. A bit of redcurrant sauce takes the tannin out and as long as you cook long and slow your venison will be beautifully tender. The nastiness of the red wine will remove any temptation to drink it....
Also helps if you know what sort of beast it comes from, the bigger the beast and older the more likely it is to be tough. So in order of preference, muntjac, roe, fallow, sika, red. As you're moving north you should be able to find a game dealer without too much trouble (they are thin on the ground in Battersea) and they will let you have 'stewing steak' for less than you'd pay for beef. Nicer, lower in cholesterol and free range too!0 -

Thanks Aesop,
that would do the big Ikea lamp - but would you know of there's such a thing as a smaller one to fit a table lamp? that would do for knitting. Does Ikea have them?

Thanks for the biobulb links and comments - have just ordered 2, one for the kitchen and one for the bedroom I think. I am also going to try multiples of Vit D as i seem to have SAD worse than ever this year.
In clearing out a cupboard this week i found 3 x 100w old fashioned lightbulbs so am somewhat covetting them at the mo and wondering where best to place them. I feel that my SAD has been worse since we started using eco friendly bulbs. I have a cheap daylight alarm clock so might start using that as well.
Off to clear out another cupboard.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hello folks - everybody must be having a busy Sunday!!!
I am absolutely shattered today. Was up and out early, then took DDs for lunch at carvery nom nom nomand not long been back - managed to relight the fire from embers that were glowing from last night! Just as well really as I have no firelighters left, no kindling and I just can't get heatlogs or coal to light by just paper...
Didn't manage to get out and cut up the broken pallets but will do that tomorrow whilst DDs are at school. I do resent burning bought wood when I have a free supply of it
The plan of getting some more hens is moving forward. Not sure whether to buy a cheap incubator and hatch some eggs as that will be lovely for DDs to see, or choose some POL hens, or ex-battery..... Favourite is to hatch some but could end up with all cockerals... and what does one do with a cockeral or a few cockerals? (no, I couldn't eat them! well, I could if someone else did the messy bits!)
I am going to make some raised beds with some of the better pieces of pallets - I have loads of compost that I didn't use in the summer so will top them up with that. Can't wait to get planting in Spring :rotfl:
Can't believe I can even think about Spring!!! I am usually so beaten up by SAD this time of year that Spring seems like a lifetime away!!! :T
Right, must go and wash the uniforms ready for tomorrow, and stoke the fire
Have a lovely, warm and snuggly evening everybody :A0 -

if you install the nectar search toolbar, whenever you go to a site that is linked to nectar points, they will tell you automatically you can earn nectar points if you go through their site.0
