Hi all, long time no jibber jabber :o. I've been working :( and had 7 really busy nights .
This morning I have made coffee cake. Yum. Just trying to decide what to ice it with now. Probably chocolate icing. Not sure though. May not be able to do it at all because they're still a bit hot and my kenwood bowl is in the dishwasher.
On the topic of dishwashers; ours broke a while after we got it. We did without for some time but then bought ours second hand when someone was getting rid of it. I love not having to wash up. I work nights and have to get out of bed, fetch the kids from school, come home, have breakfast and give them their snack and then clear up the kitchen so I can start tea. I then cook tea, shove it down my neck, have my bath and go to work. Without the dishwasher, I would have to wash up in that time too and I would probably strangle someone. It gets on my t**s enough when I come home to all the tea time dishes. I don't even go in the kitchen now in the morning, I go straight to bed.
DH always says he's tired but he needs a rocket up his backside at times. He works 9-5.30 and comes home for an hour lunch break. I work 7.45-8.15 and sleep 8.45-3. He doesn't see that he has 4 more hours at home than I do.
Sorry, having a grumpy day. Hoover wouldn't work when I was trying to do the car (in the rain :() so I had to sweep the blasted thing out. Tried to change the stereo but can't get the clip off the back of the new one so I can just plug it in. Grr. The hoover has a blockage. It sounds like paper. I've taken the whole chuffing thing apart and can't find it but lo and behold, turn the thing on and you get 2 seconds of suctions before it goes slurp and stops sucking. GAH!
DD has her sleep over tonight for her birthday. She's driving me mad at the moment. She's being vile to me. So rude and DH does nothing about it. If she cheeks him, she gets a warning from me. If she's rude to me and I tell her off he starts on at me saying not to shout. I'm not bl00dy shouting love!
He told DS last week that he was going to start fining him £1 every time he found lights left on. The night before last, he left on 3 lights and left the door wide open when he went upstairs (a big no no as all the heat vanishes if you do that). I followed him up stairs 5 minutes later and told him he was going to lose £1 (had spent all afternoon telling him about doors and lights) and he started crying because he wants to buy a book. DH (lying in the bath) then starts having a go at me for upsetting him. It's no wonder that the kids have no respect for me really is it.
It's one of my real bug-bears. DH is very passive aggressive and winds me up to the point of fury and then walks off saying "don't shout". He was moaning about DD not having done her homework the other night as I was on my way to work. He's fed up of having to do it all the time. I said I'd forgotten and wouldn't have had time but he carried on moaning. When I then said I'd think about that while I was out gallivanting he got really cross and told me to stop making out he doesn't do anything! Err, hello? That's precisely what you've just accused me of and I'm not saying you don't. You're saying you do everything and I do naff all. I am pointing out that I'm actually going to work right now.

Anyway. I shan't pack my bags and run away from them all just yet, I'll just vent on here instead :o!

Why on earth are either of you doing your daughters homework for her???????? (and it sounds like it's a regular occurance :().

(((((((((((((Kaz2094))))))))))))))))) It sounds like you need a break from it all. DH is terrible at doing the "nasty" stuff with the monsters. So he does the fun stuff and I find myself turning into a screaming Harpie. I suggest sitting down with your OH and telling how confusing it is for the children when he is undermining you and that it is up to both of you to turn your children into responsible adults and that means giving them boundries and enforcing them.

Thank you for pointing out my mistake Aesop :) I've edited my post.
Well I made it to Asda to use my £5 off a £40 shop so we have a large amount of chocolate oranges and tubs of Ben and Jerrys. Unfortunately DH got called out by work so I never made it to Sainsburys. That means another trip out tomorrow.

I want to try hibernating too GQ. I'll bring the chocolate oranges with me in case we get peckish.

VJsmum - have you ever had any of their meat boxes? I am eyeing them up but they really are expensive.

Well, I have a new sofa and a new landing carpet. They have measured up for the stairs runner so that has gone to be whipped. The bathroom is now virtually finished so just maybe the end of these flipping renovations is in sight!!!! I am losing the will to live.

No i haven't ever had one - I have freezer issues (i.e. no space).

    :D Sounds like a plan!

I logged off my work PC this afternoon and about 3 mins later a major computer program crashed.:o Wasn't my fault but I skipped out of there with a happy face as I'd spent hours struggling earlier in the week with that same blasted program when it was down for all bar 5 mins of my shift. Wheeeee!

Have banked my Dylon refund cheque for £4.95 so will consider that a "present" and try to find something nice to treat myself with.

Born blonde thanks for the apple-in-the spuds-trick. New trick to me but I shall certainly give it a go. Preferably with freebie apples which are growing on a tree by the main road. Not too sure about eating them due to the intense air pollution by they'll fit this purpose.

Roll on Saturday as I shall be allotmenteering as the weather is supposed to be good.

Have a happy Fri night, everybody, GQ x

VJsMum; for goodness sake, be careful, hun. Understair cupboards are portals into the Dungeon Dimensions and you might never get out again!

  • aaaahhhh, thank goodness I don't have an understairs cupboard. Well, I do but we don't call it that, we call it the pantry:D:D, that way we don't have the dark mysteries of the understairs cupboard to haunt us, we have the exciting prospects of pantry surprise hunting instead, it's all in the headology you know!

Well, I never did put the heating on yesterday, yay me! I felt warm enough after my hot bath to just shove my pj's and dressing gown on and snuggle in front of the log burner.:)

Today, however, is a different matter. I am trying to make as many C***stmas pressies as possible so have spent a goodly portion of the day sewing upstairs. Didn't generate much body heat sitting still all day so now I'm flippin' freezing, despite being layered up like the michelin man. Result is I crumbled and put the heating on 15 minutes ago. Still, I suppose it's not bad to only be putting the heating on at this time on a November evening.

I am currently making a vat full of vegetable chilli to be portioned up for tea tonight and the rest in the freezer.

Plans for the weekend include a final tidy of the garden and a cook fest. I feel a massive baking session coming on.
Have a good OS weekend everyone
  • Wash your mouth out missus, that's swearing in our house! (Hence why under our stairs is jam packed full of [STRIKE]crud[/STRIKE] treasure).

I have just made chili and rice for tea, yum! We are all rather stuffed now but washing up beckons, not enough to make me want to do it yet! I'd dearly love a dishwasher but haven't the space in our ancient and poorly designed kitchen. With any luck we will be moving in the New Year sometime, if there's a dishwasher space I will be overjoyed!

Hobsonschoice - Hope you enjoyed your day. There's some things no-one wants to be reminded of and some people that are only to obliging to put their foot in it.

I took littlest DS to see my friend, we ate cake and drank tea while the kids played. My friend is awesome but think we both need to diet come the new year!

Sorry, no we don't do it. I just phrased it poorly. We have to stand over her to get her to do it. This was a maths one and she struggles a bit with maths so needed help with it. She's a typical 10 year old who doesn't want to do her home work. Apparently DH was dreadful too. I was a bit of a geek and just did it :o. MiL says DD's like he was as a child.

I have said this to him. He can't see that he's undermining me. If I say he's undermining me, he turns around and says I'm doing it to him :(

to tidy up the cupboard under the stairs

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I'm sure most of us have freezer issues :o, I love my freezer! Don't know what I'd do without it. A friend of mine came round one day when I was doing the kitchen and she was aghast at the amount of gadgets I have. She commented on it at work one night when there were a few of us there and I was rattling off the list of stuff. I can't get rid of it though because I do actually use it all :D. I lurve my stuff :D. Last year I got a pressure cooker (love this for size and speed of cooking things). I also got a slow cooker but that was to replace my well loved wedding present which had been used so much the front dial had fallen off and was a fire hazard. Then I have my crockery. I use all of this too. Some was my Grannies but I love it all. Is it bad that I love bowls :o? :D.
My cupboard under the stairs has issues. It will one day be sorted out so that it is a useful functioning space but at the moment it's a very large very full wasted space trap.

I made coffee cake this afternoon and took an 8" and 20 cup cakes to school for children in need. They were charging 50p per slice or individual cake  and only allowing people to have 1 each .
This meant that they were left with loads of cakes at the end. All of my 8" sold but only 2 cupcakes sold so I waited for everyone to go and asked if I could buy the tin. They just gave it to me :o. I think they ought to review their pricing structure. DD's school works on the pile it high, sell it cheap principle. They seem to get way, way more donations per head and usually sell everything. They also sell some whole cakes for a bit more money. I'm sure they raise far more money than the other school. It's the parents who are funding it all after all, we donate the cakes and then have to buy them.

Fish and chips for tea tonight. Poor kitty is going crackers as I've had the ham hock in the sc all day and then stuffed it with cloves, covered it with honey and have cooked it. She'll get hers later though. Can anyone recommend a good meat slicer? (another gadget :o) ther's no hope for me :rotfl:
