I quite like that thread and it has got a lot of new posters which is always nice and gives you a different perspective. But it seems to have lost momentum over the last day or two and is probably dropping down the boardIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Morning everyone
I Have a pack of bacon in the fridge that really needs using up today. I really don't fancy having a fry up so can anyone suggest a good meal from bacon rashers please.

Morning!
We have sun, but not for long so the forecast says. Very chilly outside, and without the heating, the house is cooling quite quickly. Luckily we are used to this as we went through last winter in London with no heating, so are hardened up to it:rotfl:. We seem to have a curse around anything to do with heating or cooking, there is always something wrong.
Men have been booked to investigate replacing our tank - they have been told to put their blue-sky thinking heads on!
OH opened an old bottle of wine last night to see if it was drinkable which it isn't so thought I would turn it into red wine vinegar - it seems that if you leave the bottle open in a warm place for a few weeks it does the job itself, but no hope of that at the moment!
Decied I need to menu-plan so will go through the freezer and cupboards today and make a list of meals we have in stock.

I use bacon rashers to make spaghetti carbonara:
spaghetti
clove of garlic
3 egg yolks
large tub of single cream (or full cream milk will do if you're on a budget)
packet of value streaky bacon
mushrooms
grated cheese (parmesan if you have it)
Put the pasta on to cook. Chop then dry fry the bacon until it's crispy. Add in the mushrooms and stir until cooked. In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks and cream together and season with salt, garlic and lots of black pepper, mix in grated cheese.
When the spaghetti is almost ready, drain and add it to the bacon and mushroom mix. Pour on the egg/cream/cheese mix and stir over a low heat for a few minutes until the egg mix is cooked. Serve immediately.
Don't forget to keep the egg whites to make meringue or pavlova.

PIC - how about chopping it up and frying it off with some onions and garlic, then add so tinned toms to make a pasta sauce? A bit of chilli perks it up into a nice robust cold weather dish!
Or if you have eggs you could make a crustless quiche/frittata thing - again chop and fry with onion and any other leftover stuff. Add grated cheese to beaten eggs and pour over the bacon in the pan, then cook gently till almost set. I top with more cheese and bung under the grill to finish.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Phew - thank goodness its monday - back to work where at least I cna sit down and have a brew!!
I've been in a DIY abyss since thursday eve - but finally my bathroom is done. Ourold suitepolished up beautiful with a to of bleach, pink paste and MR Muscle - NOT very OS but better than buying a new one! New paint and undoing los of botches by the previous inhabitants. Oh and hubby indulged me with a fabulous chandelier - how I get to bath surrounded by tiwnkly rainbows cast by the crystals! I made blinds out of some antique linen teatowels I inherited and they look fabulous - we are calling it vintage opulance - but basically its a collection of all our old bits and bats cleaned up and repurposed!! Old teaspoons as hooks and china teacups tull of cotton buds!
We have lived of takeaways and ready meals for 3 nigths so back on OS wagon tonight with a decent meal and good tidy up!
I like a bacon a potatoe bake - thinly slived spuds, onions and bacon layered up, milk or stock poured over and baked for about and hour. Cheese on the top makes it all bubly and yummy.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

thinly sliced potatoes layered in a baking dish with chopped bacon and onion. Pour over a cheese sauce and bake in medium oven for about 40 minutes until brown and bubbling and the potatoes feel done when you test them with the point of a knife. Serve with cabbage or other green veg. Cheap and delicious

Morning all.
I'm really wishing I had some bacon in the fridge now as there's been some delicious suggestions. About the only one of my favourites that hasn't been mentioned is to simply stirfry chopped bacon, garlic, green cabbage and lots of black pepper together until brown: I usually intend to make it as a side dish but it's so lovely I end up eating it all by itself.
I won't be going to Mr T to get flour at lunchtime as I had intended as the 'repair' to my leaky sink on Friday has made matters worse instead of better so the landlord's handyman handy man is coming back to have another go.The only good thing is that I have a cheapy plastic pot that fits so perfectly at the back of the sink that it could have been made for the purpose of catching leaks.

Cor, me too CCP, although being on the "CBA" side as a cook, I could murder a bacon butty with loads of brown sauce, none of your "soft jessie" red stuff!
Well, overspent massively at Costco yesterday :eek::eek: had intended spending about £200 and spent just over £400 !!! Mind you, some of it is to come back for some stuff we bought for our DD but still spent about £300 ourselves. I am consoling myself that I won't need much in the way of basic supplies for the next 4 months at least - If I get my act together I might even make some of it last up to 6 months. Still and all, it was a heck of a shock to the system. OH says he's not taking me there again :rotfl::rotfl:
rachb - your bathroom sounds absolutely gorgeous. You seem to have used some really original ideas - wish I was as creative as that.
It's bloomin' freezing here today so I intend doing a whirling dervish impression on the upstairs housework to keep warm. Right, better make a start then. Have a good day all.0
