  • Ta - I really must go and take him out:(.

I honestly think they should only be available at proper organised displays - I know several people who've had some really nasty burns etc and the fact that they will probably go on intermittently from now (they started last week here) through until after NY is just ridiculous IMHO.

Signing off for tonight - hope your girls get to sleep soon Frugal:)

Kidcat - he tried his insurance who said that they can only deal with our insurance company (which we don't have) so not sure where we stand?I would have thought that it would not matter but these companies are notorious for squirming out of any liability :(

Realistically its easier between two insurance companies but by no means compulsory. Ask him for their details then write to them yourself detailing your claim. Be clear and state deadlines ie you expect a response within 7 days. Send letter recorded delivery, then follow-up with a phone call. I have dealt with several car insurance claims without using ours insurance company, its usually much quicker. Other option is to get a solicitor to act for you on basis that they should include their costs in the claim. However this usually stretches matters out and becomes more difficult.

Thanks Kidcat, we will talk to our neighbour in the morning to get all the details.

I went to Tesco today and was horrified to see that they already have a decorated christmas tree greeting customers on the way in, and christmas decorations hanging down from the roof! I think it should be illegal - on pain of being horribly tortured - to have anything like that before December! It's one thing selling them, but quite another being all decorated and wishing people a merry christmas over a month before the ONE DAY which constitutes christmas!

Anyway on a better note, I bunged half a dozen spuds in my new slow cooker this morning because we were going to be out all day, and they cooked beautifully.
  • mrs chip - i know this might sound daft but do you have legal cover as an extra on your motor insurance ? or RAC membership with legal cover?

if so - you should be able to contact the legal helpline and get the proper advice.

the legal cover - covers just about anything and everything - so is not just applicable to motoring - so certainly worth trying - as the last thing you need is a hefty bin to get the tank fixed etc

    Morning Everyone!

Glad to say there were only a few distant sparkles and NO BANGS at all here again last night. My doggies do hate them so... especially the ones that go Whhhhheeeeeeeeeeee! Where we were before near Crystal Palace there was a massive display every year, and bonfire night was a no go out night because of the animals. My old staffie boy was so terrified he'd spend most of the evening quivering with his head up inside my jumper. We used to put on the noisiest action movies we could to try and drown the noises outside, as the video noises never bothered him, weird as bangs and explosions sound the same to us, but I guess their sensitive hearing picks up stuff we don't. I agree though that there should only be organised displays.

I've used my slow cooker twice, last night I made a stew using a tiny piece of whoopsied beef, and I bulked it out with an Aldi chorizo, that was pretty tasty. The night before I made a pork mince 'filipino mince meat curry' using a recipe from the slow cooker curry book I got from the Book People. It was really really tasty, but rather off-puttingly like the contents of a nappy when it was cooked  Creamy yellow because of the coconut milk, and full of small lumps. I kept my opinion to myself, and ladled it over egg noodles for the boys and rice noodles for myself, it was voted a great hit, and it certainly worked really well with the rice noodles. I'm missing pasta a lot more than anything else, since I stopped eating wheat.

Flumped on the sofa to watch the X factor last night, then went off to bed to read Alice Fowlers Foraging Book, which I also bought last week - this time from The Works - great book (would make a good crimbo pressie IIRC it was £4.99) I fell off the 'Thou shalt not buy books' waggon B I G T I M E last week :o I was so naughty!
The DVD I got from Lovefilm weeks ago is still languishing unseen on the side, I think I have to cancel this? At about a fiver a month it seemed like a good deal, but I am JUST not finding time to watch any of them? I could spend that £5 on books :T

  • Good morning all.
Have not been on all week as DD’s have been using the computer in the evening to do their studies and RL has been very busy. I have caught up with you all this morning though. The problem with this is that there are so many people I want to comment to the post would be huge, so hugs to all who need :grouphug:them and shared anger to all of those who have been on the receiving end of criminal activities .
Halloween went well. We ran out of sweets and asked OH to bring more on his way home from work. When he got in with them he told us that he had seen car loads of parents and dressed up kids driving on to the estate and parking up to go trick or treating.

Went to a friend’s house for a bonfire party last night. They live high up on the side of a valley overlooking a town so we were surrounded by firework displays.

The sun had driven off the fog and it looks beautiful outside so need to get the last of the washing on the line.

Aldi are selling their frozen turkeys for £9.99, glad I got mine earlier on in the year when they were £5.99 (bought 4 and still have 2 left in the freezer).

Have dropped off the meal planning lately so need to start to do that again today. Have chicken drumsticks to put in the SC with a HM sauce and veg. Will have with roasted pumpkin and mashed potatoes. Also have a gammon joint to cook and slice for sandwiches next week. Will use the remaining pumpkin to make soup for my lunches next week. DD 2 is wasting her sandwiches at the moment but I know she really enjoys HM pasties so will make some cheese and onion ones for her.

Have managed to get the christmas cake done, the recipiewas for one large cake but I have divided it up into two as it was too much for my sized tin. Have started the christmas shopping and will be regifting some things I got last christmas that I have not used.

Have also re started the scalf I began much earlier this year when I was teaching myself to knit. I undid it and started again and seem to have the hang of it this time. :T
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

I'm teaching myself knitting too Mrs Veg Plot.

Does anyone know if Aldi are doing the bird in a bird in a bird again this year..... and how much is it? I missed the River Cottage episode of doing this a few years back. I would love to watch it.

Our Tescos had the decorations hanging from the ceiling on the morning of Halloween & the tree in the foyer & another by the customer services desk by the evening of the same day.
It's not as if the trees even look very nice. They are only about 5 feet high with a few gold & red baubles and a miserable little string of lights. If they must put them up this early they could at least make them look 'special'. These wouldn't win any awards.
I'm just waiting for when I hear the first carol or Christmas song being played in there. It can't be long before they're belting them out as we're in the second week of November now. Listening to that day in day out as you work must drive the staff mad.
That's the end of my rant.
    Have a good day everybody.
